I took Professor Wassil for CISC 106 freshman year and it was harder than I had expected. I had taken AP Comp Sci in high school and still found the class to be challenging. Students that I knew that had never coded before struggled immensely and were often left to fail due to the strict 15 point policy that professor Wassil follows.

Gives the hardest tests out of any of the cisc106 profs by a longshot. Her midterms are significantly harder for no reason which really determines your grade. Does a very poor job conveying material to students who have never coded. If at all possible switch profs. The labs and projects are immensely hard for beginners and the textbook is bad.

I took Wassil for both cisc106 and cisc181. I found her to explain python (106) way better than explaining java (181). She is very nice and easy going to talk to and loves to get to know her students, but the course is challenging and exams are hard with a hard grading scale for both exams and labs. Most of the learning is through youtube videos.

Great professor. She really works with you and cares about her students success. Her test were very difficult and since their was only 2 of them worth 30% of your overall grade, it made the class difficult. Her tas are great and make lab easy. If you do well on the second midterm you are golden.

Pretty good at teaching computer science to new students. If you're already familiar with computer science before taking her you can breeze through just about everything but the project which is graded lightly anyways. Makes an effort to give lots of out of class help.

I love Katie Wassil! She is the best professor ever! In class, she gets to know all of her students and checks in with you frequently. She is very accommodating and helpful if you are willing to learn. Her office hours are so helpful and her powerpoint slides are so detailed. 10/10 would recommend!! Very cool Android app final project with a group.

No matter what computer science class you take, its going to be tough. But Wassil explains the concepts really well and makes sure that all her students understand the topics. Easy to get a good grade as long as you work to do well on all the labs and projects.

The lab portion will consume most of your life, especially if you have a bad partner. Labs and mini-projects take well over 10 hours to do, and can get frustrating at times. But her exams are typically really easy. She gives you some code and expects you to determine an output. But keep in mind that labs and mini projects are 50% of the grade.

Professor Wassil is a good teacher. This was her first time teaching 181 and she did very well. Lectures stick to the point and she frequently gives time for questions. If you know Java before taking this class, you are guaranteed an A.

Wassil does a very good job at explaining the material on her lecture slides. Attendance isn't mandatory but she frequently gives clicker questions. Labs and readings are assigned every week. Important to keep up with readings so that you do not have to cram for her exams the night before. Wassil really does her best to see her students succced

I absolutely loved Professor Wassil. She was an awesome teacher and was very nice and helpful. Computer Science is a very hard subject and I am not a fan of the subject as a whole but definitely take her if she's an option. Go to office hours.

Awesome professor with amazing powerpoints. She moves fast, but explains things really well and you shouldn't be afraid to ask questions. Labs will give you a good idea of what you need to know for the test, so make sure you understand them. She is a really nice lady who knows her stuff. She however, doesn't have a lot of office hours.

I came into this class with zero coding experience and did well. Textbook reading is really easy and really useful. Lecture pace is slow. Labs were tough, but extremely useful. Projects were near impossible, but she's helpful. At times, she's unclear when writing the algorithms, which is a headache, but overall a good class. I learned a lot.

LOVE Katie Wassil! Best teacher. Iwould not have passed computer science without her! She is so nice and always finds a way to make the work easier. For example she extended the due date so hw was not due on Halloween. Gives good exam reviews. Labs are difficult but she is great at answering questions. Quizzes are online and easy.

Since she used to teach CISC 101, she teaches really basic concepts in python and then gives you labs & projects that are nearly impossible if you're not experienced. If you read the textbooks and ppts, you'll learn more than from you will from her. only reason to go to lectures is for clickers. beware of immediate switch to MATLAB, leaving u lost.

Shes a very caring professor for her students and gives good/realistic advice if youre falling behind. She makes the material easy to understand, especially if you have even the slightest background in coding.
