Laura is very knowledgeable in writing and poetry, and she will make you better at those things if you can handle criticism. She has really high standards of achievement and doesn't accept late work, so you have to work really hard. She's really awesome and I learned a lot, even though she gave us WAY too many assignments.

Laura is a great professor for aspiring/intermediate poets and creative writers. Her class is fun, though sometimes a little disorganized. She can also be a little rude if you have an opinion she disagrees with. She belittled students in front of the class a few times. However, her understanding of poetry and how to teach it is really helpful.

Laura definitely knows her poetry. You write 10 poems during the semester, as well as workshop them. If you want an A you need to come to class prepared. She is supportive and gives detailed feedback on all your poems. I learned a lot about my own writing and how to improve, as well as was introduced to poets from the class reading.

She's extremely critical but also extremely knowledgeable on good writing, so as long as you're not too sensitive, her feedback will really help you learn and grow. Lots of reading, writing, class discussions, and workshops. She kept changing the schedule and assignments were confusing for some people, but overall I thought she was great.

Laura is an AMAZING teacher. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a class and a teacher like this one. She's very helpful when she hands back your assignments, and very laid back. If you do the work, show up, try, and participate, you'll be golden. She's one of the few teachers than can actually admit she's human and fallible. TAKE HER CLASS!!!

Prof Laura is wonderful! She really knows how to teach students to write AND think critically. Textbooks were cheap and interesting. Not the easiest class, but compared to other Intermediate Writing classes this one is easier than most.

Funny liberal feminist & awesome teacher! Hated English before her class. She's VERY knowledgeable & willing to help but you have to ask. Has high expectations but is willing to help, again you have to ask for the help. All papers centered on your individual major. Lots of good reading. Unconventional teacher but that's what made her awesome!

friendly, a lot of life experience, and fun- but I felt like she undermined the standard of the given assignments by caving to the whiners in class on the day the assignments were due. I would've preferred an unwavering standard from the time it was assigned to the time it was graded-- She seemed unorganized. I stopped going and passed the class.

Overall if you attend class, read all the required text, fallow directions on the assignments, make a little extra effort to go to the writing lab, and make corrections on graded papers, you can do really well in the class. She grades tough, but if you put the extra work into it, you can make up for low scores!! She is refreshingly individual!!

She takes a completely different spin on teaching an english class. She prepared us step by step for a final research paper. The information she teaches about sources and information is PRICELESS! She is a hard grader, but she offers extra points for going to the writing lab, and making paper corrections.

I don't think I understand much more than I did before about literary criticism. I love her as a person, but had a hard time trying to grasp the concepts, from our discussions. Reading the texts is essential. Lots of quizzes which are mostly based on what she feels significant, which is not usually what I found significant. Killer tests.
