Very knowledgeable - makes the class more interesting but harder to pass as she is serious about teaching the material which reflects in the exams and essays. Difficult class but it isn't overwhelming if you put in the work and you will learn some interesting stuff. But if you don't do well with lectures you might have a harder time.

Probably the most knowledgeable professor Ive ever had. Shes a tough grader but it pays off in the long run. You really have to go into this class with an open mind or else you wont pass.

Non-anthro major, took 1445, 1738 in 1 semester and will take her again this sem. She is what a true college professor at UPG should be. Read before class and don't wait to start the projects. Commentaries only help your grade, and make sure to never skip class. If you need help see her during office hours. She is wonderful, despite what RMP says.

Dr. Mazumdar is what a college professor should be. You must read and study for her classes, she expects this. She is extremely helpful as long as you listen, participate, and go to her office hours to speak with her. She is not the best emailer. She may say things that are a little rough to hear, but its from a good heart. She wants you to succeed

Her Intro to Cultural Anthro is tough. She's very unclear; taking notes in her class is challenging. Her expectations are too high for an intro-level course. Frequently berates people who volunteer answers in class and then complains when no one wants to participate in discussions. Course readings are essential and difficult. Avoid this one.

I love her classes because they are so interesting. She is disorganized but regardless she knows her material and she wants her students to do well. There is a lot to read and her exams are essay-centered. If you are lazy and want an easy A do not take a class with her.

She's the second worst professor I have ever had in my life. She teaches an intro course and turns it into a nightmare. She could care less about her students and doesnt care if they do well. DO NOT TAKE HER! She would refuses to give students ways of passing. She use says "Guess you have to study harder, or you won't pass" She is not encouraging.

Very hard. If you take one of her classes, be prepared to do ALOT of reading and studying. She does not go easy on her students.. its pretty sad that the majority of the students got a D on her 1st test. She can be very strict and demanding, and I agree... she encourages participation, but then will tend to berate you if you get the answer wrong.

Took 2 classes with Dr. M; India and Intro to Anth. Amazing for India, really confusing in Intro. Really knows her stuff. Comes across as arrogant, but is actually quite helpful if you show up to class and thoroughly prepare. Very challenging classes that require A LOT of study time. You HAVE to talk to her (office hours or by appt) do not e-mail.

Does not stick to syllabus. Extremely high amount of textbook use. No clarification on test material. Tests are all essay, given an hour to write 4. A lot of work for little payoff. Had to call off work several times because of the amount of studying required to stay in A-B range. SHOULD be an enjoyable class based on material. Good luck.

She simply has high expectations. I love the challenge and finally feel like a college student. Material is hard, but she has good intentions. Not a slacker class. She's a wonderful woman and I've learned a lot. Thank you

As a freshman, this ruined my first semester. She gave pretty good grades on the project. And there are 3 tests. She doesn't grade badly but the material is hefty. She was always late, Readings are tough, she is rude and expects you to already know everything. She doesn't give credit for participation so save yourself the heartache.

DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. You will regret it, like I did. I did not take heart the comments from here, but please listen. Worst teacher I have ever had. She is always late, doesn't clarify on anything, she is rude and mean to her students. She doesn't care. She had a fight with a student in the middle of class. Do not take this prof!

avoid her, the ratings on here are true! take bondar, who is nice & also helpful. mazumdar is pretentious, always late, unorganized and mocks you for trying to answer questions. def not a good learning enviroment, which is a shame as this could be an interesting class. she is 'ethnocentric'.. the very thing she tells you not to be!!

Intro to Cultural Anthropology with her is a horrible class. Avoid this class with her at all costs. She grades ridiculously hard, very critical of others opinioins, yells at students for not having the right vocabulary, is disorganized, arrives to class late, is inconsistent, and shows the most pointless videos. you have been warned..

Tough class, very heavy reading material. It can be easy to get lost when doing the readings she assigns because of heavy terminology. It is certainly graduate level reading. But if you ask for help she is very willing and interested. Very personable and interesting professor. Asks a lot of her students though.

Useless class. She goes off on rants about completely off-topic things and never goes back. But then tests on the material she meant to cover. If you're late, you're considered absent, but she herself is at least 7 minutes late everyday b/c she's outside smoking. No answer is good enough for her. I'd rather drop out of college than take her again.

Very challenging class. There is a lot of reading assignments, but the difficulty for me was that the level of reading material was at the graduate level. I had a hard time understanding what I read because of advanced terminology. There are several exams, which are take home but very time consuming. One of the hardest classes but very rewarding.
