Comment:
Lectures often rambled. Required "participation" in her class, but her style of lecturing isn't really conducive to participation. Seemed to be reasonable when adjusting study guide items that would be included in exams, but written comments and grades on exams and final paper indicated much higher standards than were originally described.

This class lacked clarity, the lectures rambled and got confusing and attendance was manditory. She lectured for the most part, there were 2 tests (both in class essays on 3 or the 10 topics she gave in class to study) and a final paper. Overall this class was okay if your a History major, but if not I wouldnt say this would be an ideal elective...

This course has just started, but my earlier opinion has been confirmed. HST 300 online is taught by 5 profs. a different prof each week. The day the course opened all of the lectures, assignments, etc are posted for the entire course, except the second week, taught by prof Stoner and still "under construction." Tuition dollars well spent.

Completely disorganized and required way too much from online students. There is no way that you can take a 16 week course and directly apply it to a 7 1/2 week course. She didn't realize that. I think that before a professor can teach an online class they should take one to see how it feels. She would probably fail her class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

This was by far the most unorganized class I have taken at ASU. The teacher's lectures were dry and about 10% of the material useful to the work required. She was late to grade papers and gave feedback after the class was over, not very helpful. The amount of work due in 4 days was nearly impossible for a full time worker and student. Avoid!

By far the worst and most frustrated class I have ever taken. 5 page paper, discussion post, one movie, about 20 pages of extra readings, two chapters (about 100 pages), and lectures (about 45 minutes) every week. Class took up most of my time and, as hard as I tried I could not get a perfect score for any assignment. Hard to please.

Took this class online, the weekly discussion board and paper rarely matched the assigned reading or the rambling nonsensical lectures. The excuse she gave the class "The University forced me to do this class before it was ready." Her name was on the course when I registered in Feb, it started in October. Thats nine months to get it together

This teacher hands down is the worst professor I've ever had at ASU. Syllabus is a joke. Lectures are boring. Grading is hard. Does not relate to students. DO NOT TAKE HER!!! trust meeeee, I usually like my teachers except for her. She gets easily offended too.

Regardless of the actual course title, she will only teach about Cuba because that's where her expertise is. She has high expectations for your writing and research abilities, but that's normal for a 498 class. She's very willing to help and is very intelligent. She has lots of resources to help and really knows her stuff. Not too bad for 498

Assigns many readings & 7-page papers -- be prepared! Wants you to stick to the assigned readings & lectures for source material -- attend class & speak up. Can slip into liberal mode, but very knowledgeable on Lat Am & Cuba specifically. Approachable if you need help on papers or letter of recommendation. First had her in 1993 & took her again!

4 essays in the class that comprise the grade (no tests). Her grading, in my judgment is ridiculous and unfair; she'll give you more leeway if you speak up and pretend to care about her mindless narratives about her travels in Cuba. She's ALWAYS late, if she shows up at all. She's knowledgeable, sure, but as a professor: completely unqualified.

Professor Stoner requires a lot of reading for her class and attendance as well. It wasn't clear to me until the last paper assignment what she wanted in her essays. Go to class. She wants to see what she lectures on in her assignments. All essays, no tests. She knows a ton about the subject.

Horrible. This was the routine, she would come in, set her purse down and tell interesting stories. I had a total of 3 assignments. Map test, midterm essay, and final paper. Had no clue what she was looking for in each report? Midterm was about a 15 page multi topic essay in class with no idea what topic she would choose for us to write about?

Professor Stoner is super sweet, has funny stories, and is very approachable. Her lectures are a bit scattered, and her text choice for my class wasn't the most helpful, so homework required a little extra connecting the dots. However, I found most of her lectures interesting and her grading fair.

possibly the worst college experience. i'm a 3.9 student and you would think that history would be easy. but this B%*ch made this class impossible. for this class all she does is stand in one place and she starts blabbing. 5 essays. 5-7 pages and that it, but grades unfairly if she disagress with you. DONT take her, the worst teacher ever

This prof is a jerk. Not helpful at all and rude to students in class. Don't sit in the front, she comes and yells if you dont take notes. Tests are essay only, but the readings are really dry. Sit in the back and take a nap, lecture is useless and boring

Don't let these comments fool you. I was tricked into signing up for this woman's class. she gives lectures standing in one spot reading from notes. there are no powerpoints or pictures to look at what so ever. have fun staying awake! she is a big b***h, who knows she is smarter than you. her T.A. sucks too. don't take this class!!

I'm not much of a history fan, so this class was a little bit painful. Granted, it probably helps to read the textbook more frequently. Her lectures are actually really good. The movies we have to watch, however, are better suited for an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
