Had him for Literary Journalism years back. Tough prof but easy and interesting class. A friend had him for regular journalism and he actually had to witness and write about a "conflict". Ummm, that's kinda something I'd wanna avoid...

If you thought you anything about Journalism before stepping into Dr. N's class, prepare to be wrong. The man has an almost supernatural grasp of news and will teach you to see beyond what is printed. He's tough as blazes, but accurate. His classes aren't for the easily offended. If you want to get good, spend a semester with him.

Never take anything he says personally. He's one of the toughest profs around and his honesty is refreshing. His evaluations are precise and accurate. Where other profs guarded your feelings, Dr. N will give you an accurate assessment. If you listen, you will grow exponentially. The man knows news and he knows A&E writing.

This Prof. will send you out weekly do cover a story for a beat. Which is hard doing it on your own. Also expects you to read the New Y Times daily. Don't take him unless you want to be a journalist.

Don't get me wrong, he is a nice man and is very approachable if you need help. However, people don't like him, or his class because he is an extremely hard grader. He's done journalism for many years so he grades really tough. At least I realized that I never want to pursue journalism as a career, it's to much.

Dr. N is an amazing professor. Most of the people who don't like him feel that way because he actually makes you do real work and earn your grade. He's very approachable, and has profound knowledge on the subjects he teaches. I recommend him highly if you want to improve your writing.

I absolutely loved this guy. He seems like a hard ass, but he's extremely helpful when you go to his office hours, and he's very sweet when you get to know him a little bit better. I'd recommend him for Journalism, hands down. Be ready to work, though.

If you take him for journalism, remember that he likes enterprise. Aim high when you're trying to find someone to interview for your articles. Instead of interviewing a teacher, interview a superintendant. Instead of interviewing a cop, try to get an interview with the chief of police. You'd be surprised how willing people are to help students.

SO... I would go back to my room and cry after this class. And I'm a dude. He was such a hard grader and a bit of a rude jerk as well. I wanted to like the class so much too... I hate journalism now.

Too many people seem like they want A's handed to them on a silver platter! I got an A in the course, but I also worked for it, and thus learned a tremendous amount from him. He's extremely smart, and he seriously made class interesting. He's the BEST if you're taking any journalism courses!! If you want to learn, he's the man!!

He grades tough! The topics we have to write about are interesting but he grades pretty harsh. I was usually happy to get a C and i felt like it was christmas when i got my first A. Be sure to do all of the readings because if he thinks nobody is reading be ready for pop quizzes. He gave a pop quiz on the second class.

He is a great teacher. He keeps the class interesting and is very colorful. His papers are very interesting and can be difficult. Don't be shy to ask for help though. He will be more than happy to help. The readings can be boring but read them and know the vocab. Pop quizzes are popular. Take him if you can.

He is a journalist and expects all of his students to write as though they are also. I'm sure he would be the perfect journalism teacher, but for college comp he grades very harshly. I am an english major and I have difficulty with the class. He does not teach you how to write; he just talks about the homework and tears apart your essays.

All right, not great. I can see how some people wouldn't like him, he's kind of a jerk. Still, he knows his stuff, grades fairly (for the most part), and is funny. Heep in mind he's the best one who's currently teaching journalism at KU, so he's your best bet.
