I loved this course. Professor Dressman knows his subject. All of his instructions are very clear and to the point, not overwhelming at all. He responds very quickly and genuinely wants you to succeed in this course! Also, I really appreciated that he gave feed back on just about every essay and discussion that I turned in. I highly recommend!!

One of the best professors to take if you plan on improving your writing. He will very aggressively remove any high school notions that you still have for writing and make you excel in more than just his class.

Excellent professor! There were several books to read and papers to write, including two 200-point papers, six 70-point papers, and several group discussions. The majority of the stories read were very good. I would definitely take him again.

Dr. Dressman is a great professor! 10/10 would recommend. He makes you work for the grade, but he gives good feedback, and opportunity to make corrections. His lectures are interesting, everything that he talks about is related to the material he's teaching.

This class is not an easy A, but it is not burdensome and you will learn a lot. The writing assignments are challenging, but you are allowed to submit drafts and work in groups to improve grammar and content. Quizzes and final exam come from the lectures. Professor's expectations are not unrealistic; don't be lazy, come to class, and pay attention.

He really knows his American Literature. He really makes the class interesting if you are willing to learn. Overall I'm still in his class the only down side is some of his grading is harsh. Although he will accurately critique and grade your work with comments and advice.

Awesome! He let's you make corrections on your paper to increase your grade. You do have to read the short stories but they are actually pretty good. It's a must to do the discussions, I rushed my last paper and got a B but could have gotten an easy A if I had put in more time.

HAVE to read the material, no skimming or spark notes. I'll end up with an A but I worked very hard on the 2 research papers. Material is interesting if you like to read. Nice, professional prof.

Really enjoyed this professor. He is very passionate about the material. LOTS of assigned reading but if you pay attention in class and take good notes, you can get by without reading everything he assigns. The class consists of two five page papers and three tests. Nice guy, great instructor, good class.

This is an absolutely wonderful professor. His classes are very interesting. You have to do your work and attend class but he is a very reasonable person. Even if literature is not your best subject, if you do the readings, study for the test and take lots of notes, you will do well.

Dr. Dressman is one of the best English Professors I've ever had. He made American Lit. fun and interesting. The class was easy for me. You have to read the text and know it for the exams. His grading is not too hard. I got A's on my papers(2) and exams(3), but I studied my butt off for it. I think the average student would get a B in this class.

Grandad-type figure - easy going and likeable but uses time efficiently and makes class interesting. Has a lot of general knowledge which adds to the subject. Do the work, read the books and you should get a good pass.

I took Dr. Dressman's American Lit (Colonial - 1865) in the Fall 08. If you want the best for a literature course, Dr. Dressman is the man. His standard and grading are tough, but he is fair and does give curve on tests. Don't miss his lectures. Take notes and mark the pages or sections that he goes over in class. You will see them again.

Nice guy, read the text, prepare to say a comment on the reading, and you will be fine. Be sure to take down every thing he says. If you don't take the notes, you will have a hard time passing. Do not miss class, and participate. Only two small papers and three tests.

I loved this professor. He is very nice and passionate about English. The only grades that really count are two papers and I think 3 exams. I did read some stories, the others I looked online for summaries. I got an A in the class. You must study for tests or at least have a great memory. Definately recommend this class to any one.
