Comment:

Dr. Small is a treasure @ Shasta CC. His Engl1A cirricula may be tough for some, and volumous, but this is College! He handles his lectures professionally, his syllabus was clear and accurate. And his tour of literature unmatched. You really need to be prepared to meet the 6000 word state req, Dr. Small will help you get there.

Comment:

Professor Small gives thorough feedback on every paper/essay so you know exactly how to improve with your writing. He gives entertaining lectures (as long as students are participating). He cares more about an interesting paper rather than marking you down for grammar errors. Fun to debate with about social issues. Great english teacher

Comment:

He can sometimes go on and on and on about stuff, which can make the class seem like it is dragging on forever, but he is really passionate about English and also poetry. He wants everyone to engage and discuss their thoughts on the readings, incorporating critical thinking into the course. Every week there is a reading assignment with a response.

Comment:

I would recommend him to anyone who is already pretty good at writing and not looking for much help. He expects more than he should out of you with only a little help for this class. After having to retake this class and having Fong the next semester, the difference is mind blowing in the quality of teaching. I would go with Fong for quality help.

Comment:

Read through most other reviews, kinda surprised. What others are complain about I kinda enjoyed. You can basically zone out in class, many people even straight slept through it. The papers would only take like a day to write, and the smaller HW assignments took like an hour to complete. Easy A class.

Comment:

He was very monotone & never stayed on the same subject for longer than 5 minutes. He always blabbed on and nothing was ever clear. I always slept in his class because he never was interesting. 2 Hour long lectures and we ended up talking about texting or abortion! Nah.

Lectures for 2 hours with little interaction, in what should be an interactable English class. Will go off on little side stories that will last an hour or more. Has hard time staying on topic. When on topic, it doesn't seem like it would really help us with our current assignment

I had him twice for the fall 2016 and spring 2017, and he pretty much putted me to sleep because he has a mono tone voice.

Dr. Small is a great professor, he genuinely wants to see you succeed and if you take the time to work, it will pay off. He has about 3 tests completely based off lecture, and 5 or 6 essays. Not difficult if you like to write. great teacher!

This is a super easy class. Four essays total and are fairly simple. A sum up of the entire semester: Go to class, lecture on small passage or poem and the occasional test that is fully on lectures. If you do not go to class you will not pass the test, period. Not the most exciting class, but it is an easy pass.

This class was easy, but he is not helpful at all! Expect lots of reading, mostly short passages. He gives a couple of papers, but nothing too awful. He grades you on attendance, if you miss too many classes he will drop you a letter grade.

Great Teacher! Will take the time to help you with any assignment. He gives helpful tips on writing style, and he care about your learning experience. Take him if you really want to learn. You will have to work, but I have seen him allow numerous people to turn in their papers late. Show up to class!He gets frusterated when students aren't trying

He was very helpful with questions and engaging in class. I am an English major and I had a good time rediscovering classic literature and learning how to analyze it. He gives homework almost daily and there are about three or four essays and about three exams, very easy if you pay attention to lectures.

He is a great teacher. Hes very helpful and easy going. You will do alot of reading and writing but if you do it you will get an A. Hes passionate about what he does. The only reason people wouldnt like him is if theyre lazy. College is about work and learning imagine that people!

His class is a bit boring, but he does try to add some humor to it. He mainly discusses readings in class, but it usually never has to do classwork (which we almost never have). He's always clear with instructions. He's almost always in class by the time it's about to start, but almost always holds the class over a minute or two.
