One of best professors at Chaffey. Wealth of Journalism knowledge , and she actually teaches and recognizes your efforts. Assignments are well-chosen and never boring. Easy A as long as you deliver on your work and put a real effort. you will learn a lot in this class!

Comment:

Michelle is one of my favorite professors at Chaffey. I took her for all of my journalism requirements and she's the best. Offers extra credit and cares about every individual in her classes. Definitely recommend taking her!

The best teacher I've ever had. She connects with her students. she encourages them to always go out and learn new things. She keeps the class intrigue. The class room is also a safe place to be who you want to be.

Comment:

Prof Dowd is a great person, but her class felt less like a class and more like a second job. It was disorganized, assignments were random, but she's a easy grader as long as you turn things in. Worth the credit, but don't expect to really learn much about publishing.

Comment:

Compassionate, motivating,& encouraging! I loved being in her poetry class in 2015 & the positive impact her class had on me continues to this day. I wasn't much of a writer, & the idea of peer reviews was nervewracking @first, but she created such a kind, supportive environment, it wasn't even a problem. Real, down-to-earth, & not stuffy at all

I am not a sociable person whatsoever and Michelle really forces you to work in groups, which I thought I would hate. It turns out the class was actually pretty fun. You have to be passionate with the work you do. English35 is a VERY hands on class so do not expect to be sitting in one spot all day taking notes. There's a six page final as well.

Honestly, I can tell this semester is going to drag. She will only like you if you are a total teacher's pet. Only certain students have her number because they're up her grill 24/7. Don't take literary magazine publication if you're not an English major.

This was a hybrid class. First I was overwhelmed by the material & amount of work but i was surprised at myself with what i did. She is an awesome teacher & i would highly recommend her. She pushes you to the limits and gets the best out of her students. I loved this class because she cares about her students but put in mind that u'll work a lot.

I appreciated the open structure of this course. I had never taken blogging seriously and I created a blog presence from scratch this semester that made me take myself and my voice seriously for the first time in a professional context. I learned more from Dowd requiring me to do this than I have in any other course in college so far.

I've had Dowd 3 times. All of my classes were a consistently negative experience. PROS: She's pretty forgiving, letting you make things up so you can scrape by with a decent grade. CONS: You don't learn ANYTHING. She's more interested in pushing her personal opinions on you. NONE of her classes stay within the intended focus. Very frustrating.

I am surprised at how hands on this class is and how much she actually cares that we get what we need for our chosen careers. When I met with her during office hours, she helped me see the applicability of all this stuff. No one's ever really done that for me in a way that made sense. She cares about what you learn and answers anything you ask.
