I took Japanese for the fun, and for my hobbies. Kaya-sensei was probably the best teaching choice I have ever made. She is a difficult teacher and will work you dry with homework and her expectations, but you will learn if you put just as much effort as she does into the class. 10/10 I recommend her!.

This class is somewhat odd, You do your learning at home and for class she goes over what you should've learned, and do excersises. This is a language class and surprisingly it's very effective. Just do your homework, like actually DO you homework and you'll pass this class with a breeze. Wish i can say more but character limit.

She is the best professor I have ever taken at UAlbany. She is patient with the students, but demanding. She expects a dedicated student and she pushes you to do more and to always do your best. She is very clear about her expectations and never shies away from helping when a student requests it. Always makes sure students understand. The best!

Easy going in general , just make sure you aren't going to challenging her profession. Somewhat subjective but it is still fine. Much more friendly than the Mano Sensei who always showing up with an angry face.

I took the first three semesters with Mano and I love both of them, but you guys if you want to be good at Japanese you should take both because they have different teaching styles! Kaya speaks a different dialect than mano, so if you are wanting to be fluent you should try to take both of them at least once.

She's a ****ing atom bomb. No pun intended. I've never had more fun in a class. I actually look forward to Japanese class. Yeah, the work is a lot, but come on? We're talking about something that borders might as well be an alien language when compared to English. Were you expecting a Cliff Notes?

I've had Kaya sensei for three semesters and although she assigns a heavy workload it is more because of the nature of the class than her personality that is at fault. She's kind, she's lenient and just an overall fun teacher. The best at UAlbany.

Not a terrible professor, but she gives an almost insane amount of work on a daily basis. I can't justify spending 3 hours on 8 pages of homework when I have 4 other classes to worry about. She is fairly nice, but a little too work-happy.
