I took her for a reacting class which requires a lot of participation and public speaking (speeches, impromptu stuff). I absolutely hate public speaking, however I forced myself to go up and talk twice over the whole semester and still got an A- final grade. Optional extra credit take home final, 3 easy quizzes, shes super sweet, youll pass

Such a sweet woman. Lectures are incredibly boring and pointless, but you'll get an A if you regularly speak during game sessions.

Dr. McClain is the best professor at USD hands down. Her class is super engaging and I feel like I learned so much more than I would have in a lecture heavy class. She is so delightful and truly happy to be there everyday and her positivity rubs off on everyone. She wants you to succeed, so just participate and do your work!

Such a cool class. it is never boring, it is hands on and acting type. its a reacting to the past class so it is lie nothing you have had. shes so funny and sweet very quiz is blackboard and easy with an optional final. if you do not like public speaking and prefer a lecture class this isnt for you

I HATE history, but I loved this class all because of her! She actually makes the material fun and engaging because the entire class is a game about what you learn! Very mellow grader when it comes to papers too! She's the sweetest woman ever and even brought her dog to class!!!!! Definitely take her! An easy, yet engaging course!

Comment:

Professor McClain is by far the sweetest and nicest professor or teacher I have ever had. I took her for HIST-180, and although occasionally boring at times because it's history, her class was pretty fun actually and engaging. She was super helpful every time I emailed her with a question and was not a difficult grader. Definitely would recommend.

Probably one of the kindest professors at USD. Participation in the acting game counts, but it's easy enough if you read a little. Not a harsh paper grader as far as I can tell. She also has the cutest laugh ever and BROUGHT HER DOG TO CLASS, enough said

This class was so fun! You play 2 historical "games" and get a character for each. You get super involved in fighting for your rights! There are 2 tests, 4 short essays (2/game), and a final essay! They're all super easy! She gives a study guide that covers exactly what is on the tests and you'll ace the essays as long as you complete them! Take i

She only lectures about half of the time. The other half is for in-class role playing assignments or art projects that are actually fun. Lots of movies and video clips. She is a tough essay grader, but will pre-grade your essay if sent in early. She brings her dog to class too! Also no tests/quizzes. Take her!

LOVED this class!! It is a role-playing class, so you will be assigned different characters in history and have debates with other characters. It sounds intimidating, but I'm a fairly shy person and I found it so easy to go up there and speak! Do the reading so you don't sound stupid in your arguments. The professor is the sweetest lady ever.

Team taught with Bilsel. Informative lectures, but otherwise pretty boring course. She's really lenient and easily impressed. Funny gal, funny laugh, brings a dog (Twister!) to class. If you pay attention, ask questions, and do your work with effort, you'll be fine. I recommend.

Dr. McClain is a very nice lady, and has an entertaining laugh. Her class is pretty easy, we only had 2 tests, no final, and 2 game sessions. Dr. McClain is a very nice lady and very, very smart. We definately had too many papers in this class, which got frustrating as the semester dragged on. I enjoyed the class but she needs to cut out some of the assignments and assign more readings with class discussions.

If you are in honors, take her world history II class. it called reacting to the past and you basicaly reenact historical events. we did the french revolution and the indian independence movement. i loved it and she is so sweet and nice.
