Phil was condescending, disrespectful, and a true Napoleon in Civic Band. I quit my instrument, after playing for over 20 years, because of him.

Take good notes and study them well and you will pass. I never read the chapters how he assigned, only pieces that he said will be on the test. He also takes participation and attendance very seriously. As a side note, he basically looks exactly like Danny DeVito.

Comment:

Excellent conductor and musician. Very knowledgable. He is great with those who show a passion for music. He does not like those who just float by. As long as you can prove to him that you care about music and work hard at every rehearsal, he will do anything he can to see you succeed. One of my favorite conductors to play under. Highly recommended

He is a terrible teacher. He disagrees with textbooks and students when they are correct. He is full of himself. Completely useless class. I was so excited to take this class and was very disappointed. He wastes so much time talking about him self of hitting random notes on the keyboard making us sing "doe" to the pitch. Absolute waste of time.

Hated going to class, but found it very interesting. He grades tough but if you go to him he tells you what to do and will even fix most of your mistakes with you to give a better grade. Got a 69 on final paper, still got a 3.5. He grades just from the effort you put in

He is so full of himself it is ridiculous. He talkes down to students. He is very rude and ignorant. He is a music teacher telling students how to write. Turned my FYF class in to his own philosophy. If you disagree...ur out of luck.

Dr. Simon is annoyingly self-absorbed and believes that you should put band/his classes above all else- even your grades in actual classes. Made me absolutely despise band- something I have been doing since I was in the 4th grade and have always loved. If you want to be part of (and not hate) a musical ensemble, avoid anything conducted by him.

His 101 class is cake if you know anything about the history of pop music. He comes off as arrogant sometimes, and he wasted entire class periods ranting. Tests are really easy, he takes writing very seriously, so if you don't write well don't expect to get good grades on the "papers"(they're only 1 page)he assigns. Do the readings and you'll be ok

This man had done nothing for me, it was simply a 101 course, not a 600 level course. If I wanted to take an English class, I would have. This man did nothing but be rude to us the students and grade harshly. This man is full of himself and this class was horrible. Find a DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!!!!

This man is a terrible terrible grader. He is not helpful and is rude. Once again he grades rediculousely. He gives horrible grades for one page papers when there is hardly anything wrong with them, I didn't know I was going to an english class when i signed up for Music 101!!! His class is boring and pointless.

Terrible interpretations of music. rehearses pieces he likes and leaves others unprepared for the concert. Doesnt give paying students their due (aka playing first parts). Thinks his jokes are funny. good humored but incompetent. a good reason to change your major. stay away if you dont wanna start to hate your art.

Phil Simon is a former high school band director. Moving to a university setting was his worst move. He's clearly not suited to be a college professor because there were ;many instances where the students knew more than him.

Mr. Simon is a seemingly nice man, but he is full of himself. He spends way too much time focusing on grammar in a music class and needs to realize he is not an English teacher. The class itself is easy but utterly boring.
