Turner will not hand out A's unless you put in the work and effort to get one. He is clear with instructions and will give helpful feedback if wanted. Do the presentations, papers, and read the text. Contemporary Asian Art is his forte so take this class - it is fascinating to see modern China, Korea, and Japan in the art world.

Participation is mandatory and going to his office hours will help your grade significantly! He doesnt give very many assignments so you have to make sure you take the time to study and write papers. Its not a procrastinators course; just make sure youre on top of your work and youll do well.

The subject material is interesting and he clearly cares a lot about what he's teaching which is always a good thing. Downside I'd say is he tends to grade a little hard and not give very many assignments (to be graded!) Good sense of humor.

nice guy. prepare to do a lot of busy work for projects in Intro to Design. There are only 6ish projects, and no tests. Just show up on time (he takes attendance sometimes), participate in class critiques (around 2 per project), and actually try on your pieces. It's a cake walk.

Had him for Visual Literacy in conjunction with Wendy Salmond. He initially comes across as a bit standoffish, but once you take the time to get to know him he's a very nice and fair teacher. If classes seem boring, it's probably because HE finds it boring, but a lot of it is (unfortunately) mandated material. P.S. - Don't bother getting the textbo

Turner gives extremely long talks about the projects he assigns which usually become more unclear the more he talks. He has high expectations and knows what he is talking about in terms of composition, but he does not know himself how to do art(He hires others to do the actual work).This guy assigns too many collages and likes to hear himself talk.

Had him for Vis Lit, 3D design, and Asian art history. For Vis Lit I thought he was boring and monotonous, then during 3D he helped a lot with project ideas. By time I had Asian art I loved him. He doesn't get enough credit- he really is a nice guy- just talk to him. Major hippie, did drugs in the 60's- that shows for something. Ask him about it.

I think he is a very good professor, but he is pretty picky about papers. His analysis of the art work is very precise. He gives wonderful suggestions about the projects we do in class.

Turner sometimes likes to hear himself talk but he's pretty cool by helping you with ideas for your projects. On intepretation papers he sometimes gets picky and marks you down if your interpretation is different from his. Overall, good guy though.

Visual Literacy and Foundation of Design. Richard is a good teacher. If you need help just ask. In the beginning of the year i thought he was monotonous and kind of egotistical. but then you get to know his personatily and how he jokes around. i loved foundation of design, he helped me with my ideas and gave me great feedback when i asked questions

Visual Lit & 3Ddesign. At first i thought he was boring and monotone. But i realized over the semesters that he does care, and he'll try to clarify any questions. He doesnt get enough credit- He really does know what he's talking about- he's been at Chapman since the 70's and he's done a lot of art.

He really is a great teacher who cares about his students. I really recommend taking him in any class. Hes very very intelligent and knows what he is teaching. My only complaint is he tends to be unclear at times...its really not that big of a deal though.

I don't know why everyone talks so much crap about Richard. Yes, he's a bit boring, yes, rambles, but he's very intelligent and cares about his students. He's also a gifted sculptor. If you're an art student, take a class from Richard--you'll most likely enjoy it.

Richard's really not all that bad. He is a very intelligent guy that simply wants to stimulate his students to be smarter. He grades very hard and will rip your paper apart if you don't put enough effort in. But at the same time offers wonderful suggesting for making your paper better.
