Love him. I don't know how he is for regular bio classes, but he made env bio really fun. He finds ways to insert at least one interesting example or historical anecdote into his lectures so you have fun things to connect information to. Very sweet, get there before class and listen to his dad-rock music (ex Grateful Dead).

Professor Laushmen is a knowledgeable educator, but he often has trouble conveying material with clarity. While subject matter may not be very difficult, the disorganization of both his teaching style and class format usually makes it hard to follow.

Can be fairly disorganized at times. Means well and tries hard but overall doesn't convey the material that well in lectures, Mary Garvin teachers her module of BIOL 102 a lot better.

Not the most exciting professor, but quite competent. I enjoyed his lectures, and he was easy to talk to after class, although there was usually quite a line to talk to him during office hours.

Had him for BIOL 102 and FYS and he is extremely nice and very interesting. He is very passionate about the subject matter and tries to bring up topics students will also be fascinated by. However, his lectures tend to be a little hard to follow and he doesn't answer questions very well.

Really smart, nice guy, and tries to keep everything interesting. However, his lectures can be very confusing. I was in his seminar and its good but discussions mostly consisted of him going off on tangents about his experience in the field and didn't leave a lot of room for actual discussion.

i really enjoyed the subject material, but he was somewhat rude and seemed annoyed when i spoke to him outside of class. not nearly as clear or as interesting as garvin.

Because I overloaded my schedule, I wasn't doing terribly well in his class. I made it a point to stop by frequently and explain my failings/ask for help/talk about zoology. Guess what? He still liked me, despite the fact that I had to P/NP his course, and he was always accommodating and helpful.

Loved him!!! Yes, the class is hard, but he made it much easier for me. Hes great at giving all his students the attention they need, even in a 140-person lecture class. Hes very supportive and easy to understand.

This professor was awful! Before the add/drop, everything seems easy, but the test really hits you in the face! This is not a class for intro-level bio students as advertised, and this man was nothing but ruin to my GPA. He gave me no help and was somewhat rude the one time I did go in to see him.

Great guy, really helpful outside of class. Picky in bio120, but less so in population bio. If you don't like the subjects, you won't like his class. If you do, express interest and he'll love you.

Ughhhhhh. He was ok for 120, but he makes 208 unbearable. It's too bad, because pop bio could be an amazing subject. Laushman has the talent of saying things that seem completely obvious and stupid in lecture, and then expecting a hell of a lot more in exams. He's a nice guy, but THIS class made my semester hell (not cell & molec or organic).

Lectures usually decent, but completely unhelpful outside of class. Hard to get ahold of, not nearly enough office hours for the number of students taught, especially when combined with him being acting chair of ENVS.

Lectures were boring, slow. The material could be learned more quickly and thoroughly from reading the textbook. I met with prof. to discuss options for skipping or testing out of the class, he was unaccomodating, cold, and rude: the only professor at Oberlin who made me cry. I dropped the class and ended up taking advanced Bio courses anyway.

What an amazing teacher! He is extremely clear and knowledgable and a nice guy too. I have him for lab and feel both comfortable and informed. I hope to take some classes with him in the future. Office hours are always very helpful.
