Comment:
Ill keep it short and simple. Dr. Trencher clearly demonstrates her passion for the subject and her students learning. The material, especially phenomenology, is very complex and no readings outside of class help with it. So just pay attention and put in the effort.

I only had her for a few weeks (scheduling concerns), she is one of my favorite professors. She was so polite and caring and though this class was for seniors, she never shamed me for not knowing my way around college as a freshman. Rather, she and her TA were very encouraging. Ultimately I had to withdraw, I would love to take her if I can.

If you're looking for a Gen Ed to fulfill the social science req., then take Trencher. Each lecture, the class was entertained with the stories she would share to help students understand complex concepts. She has experience working with large lecture classes, so she knows what she's doing. I love her sense of humor, there was never a dull moment!

Horrible professor. Lectures are so scattered, and hardly ever tests on book material, so you never know what you're being tested on. The TA was a saving grace, but if you don't have one, you have a lot of work cut out for you. She thinks she's very funny but I think she came across vey condescending and ditzy. Do not recommend.

The class is very large so it's easy to skip a few classes... I don't recommend that. Her lectures are all over the place but she's an entertaining lecturer. I visited her office hours after bombing my first exam and she really calmed me down. She's understanding and overall awesome professor. Go to class!

She's probably not the best professor to teach an introductory Anthropology course and get students familiar with the field. Her lectures are confusing and unstructured and she goes off on many tangents. I never felt prepared for any of the tests. If you're looking for an easy class or a class where you know exactly what is expected, look elsewhere

Awesome awesome awesome prof! Despite the many stories and tangents, I always walk out of class understanding the material. Even if you don't, attend the review sessions before the exams and you'll do great! But you SHOULD definitely go to class.

This was the FIRST instructor I have had at Mason who actually encouraged and expected students to do any independent thinking! Awesome Professor and one of the few useful courses I have taken in a while! Excellent and thanks Mrs. T!

Definitely go to review sessions, other than that, you don't really have to go to class. She's a really interesting teacher, and most lectures are pretty fun...though you'll be close to falling asleep at least once every day. Other than that, tests aren't especially hard, but definitely study they're no walk in the park! Good class, good teacher!

She isn't scatterbrained, it's that she piles footnotes upon footnotes upon footnotes (from which maybe a point or two out of a three hour lecture may show up obfuscated in an exam later on) on top of one another and gets way off topic. It's really just the Susan Trencher show. Traveling is more pedagogical. This course was a waste of money.

3 tests(all non-cumulative) and a public anthropology project(pretty much one typed page of analysis). Tests were weird, they weren't really from the book or lecture, which could make it somewhat hard. Lectures were largely a brainless exercise. Honestly came out of the class learning nothing, I'd take ANTH with someone else if possible.

The lectures consist of her rambling about randomness in front of a bunch of students. If someone asks her a question, she often takes the whole time to answer it. I couldn't really see how her lectures correlated to the book, but as long as you read the book yourself and familiarize yourself with vocab, you should be ok. Exams are easy too.

She rambles alllll class. It gets ridiculous sometimes. I pulled a B outta somewhere. I honestly don't know how because her tests never came from notes and occasionally came from the textbook but not really. I don't recommend this class.

Dont listen to the negative comments. This class was a breeze only 3 exams that are based on lectures and a online commuity action project essay. I ended up with an A- all I did was study 2 weeks prior to the exam no need for the textbook just buy the forest people book for the final. If u get a C or below u might want to go back to kindergarten

trenchers lectures can only be described with this symbol /b/ and scatter brained. She drones on and on about specific details of s*@t you dont even need to know. she never gives you notes and when she uses her whiteboard she writes words and phrases but never elaborates on them and they dont even count as notes. i would not recommend taking her

Professor Trencher is marvelous-she loves what she teaches, and it shows. Some comments call her lectures "scatterbrained," but they make sense to me. I think human history put chronologically would be a bit dry anyhow. Her topics are ecclectic, and I find them to be connected somehow.

Very, very, very nice teacher; but, incredibly scatterbrained. She lectured for an hour and a half and then turned to the class and said 'oh, this is just an FYI' she does have good TAs. Study the test guides and you can do well.

I wasn't a huge fan of this class, mainly because she doesn't post any kind of lecture notes online, and her lectures are pretty hard to follow. I found it hard to know what was relevant to the test and what was not. Tests aren't very hard, but do require studying. She's very passionate about anthropology, but I wouldn't really recommend.

She is a great teacher, who you can tell loves the subject she teaches, which is extremely refreshing. I took her last semester,Anthropology 114, and recommend her to ANYONE who wants to take a lecture class that is entertaining and interesting. The only downside, is that the grades are based on just three tests, just pay attention and you'll do wel
