Comment:
This class was far too easy for me, and it's primarily due to the structure of the course. All that you should attend is the discussion section, as it's simply a 1 hour summary of 2 hours of lecture, and more geared towards providing you the answers you need for the test. I never attended lecture or read the books and got an A.

Great professor, I loved her Philosophy of Law class. It was interesting and a lot of the info was applicable to everyday life. Essay question tests were graded pretty harshly, but if you go to class and pay attention during discussion it's a decently easy A.

Smith is not for the weak minded. She is a tough professor for sure. If you are averse to being pressed to defend yourself & your views on the spot in class, then she's not for you. However, if you care about the class, put in the effort and are willing to accept some tough critiques, then you will learn and grow a lot here.

While Dr. Smith may appear as a stickler, she has an amazing heart and truly wants to bring out the best in her students. She can be firm & demanding, but ultimately means well - expect high standards & intense intellectual discussions. Also tries to get to know students & was nice enough to host dinner at her house. Grade is def worth the effort.

Plan II Freshman Seminar: Art, Sport, and the Meaning of Life. She is an objectivist so in some senses it is a very biased view sometimes. Class was interesting. She can be gruff but she means extremely well. I wouldn't recommend it without any philosophy background. Interesting discussions, tough papers, Bs were common.

I took her for Philosophy of Law. It was awful. We talked about Ayn Rand and John Locke more than anybody else. It was more a History of the Constitution class than Philosophy of Law. She was very biased, right wing, mean to students, and very picky on paper requirements. I got an 88 she gave me a B plus.

I respectfully disagree with the person before me, because prof. Smith was extremely well organized with her lectures and was very clear with what she expected. I found her interesting and her dry humor very appropriate. I can't wait to take another one of her classes.

Lectures disorganized; dispite no offered clarification, expectations on papers very specific and idiosyncratic; treats even graduate students condescendingly by taking attendance; fails to understand the limitations of her expertise
