Comment:
He is one of the nicest professors I've ever met but getting through his classes is borderline painful. Barely anything is done in his classes and he gives very vague assignment for essays that barely explain anything. He's nice enough to let you redo papers if you're not happy with the grade but his a pretty hard grader on essays.

Dr. Hemmeter is a very nice person, but as a professor, his disorganization drove me up a wall. I was never completely sure what he wanted me to improve upon in my writing, and his instructions weren't completely clear. Again, he's a very nice person, but as a professor, you're probably better off with someone else.

Hemmeter is a good professor, and I feel as if I learned a lot in his class because of his knowledge. He is also a very nice man, and he clearly wants his students to succeed. He will go the extra mile to help you if you ask for it. I also found his feedback on writing to be valuable; my writing did improve after taking his class.

The most unorganized mess I have ever met in my entire life. I have never regretted taking a class more in my entire life. Had him for EN199 and EN202, he's never on task and never explains his assignments. Never take a course with him and NEVER walk into his office, I've never seen a messier space in my life.

Comment:
He is knowledgeable, no doubt but his classes are super boring. He does not make use of the class time productively. In a class on two hours, he spends almost thirty minutes about the stuff that does not matter and has nothing to do with the course. He is a tough grader and is never satisfied with whatever you write. But lets you revise papers.

Comment:
It's clear that Hemmeter is knowledgeable about the subject he's teaching, but his lectures are boring and done in a monotone that feel like they drag on FOREVER. Class time is overall unproductive. He's a tough grader, but will let you make revisions and turn papers back in for a higher grade. He's not terrible, but I will not be taking him again.

Final grade based on 4-5 writing pieces given throughout the semester, a portfolio/folder of informal writing, and a brief 5- min portfolio presentation about what you've noticed in your writing. Sets up prof-student conference times to review papers before they are due. Great person but okay professor. Class time typically unproductive.

Best professor I've ever had. I've taken four classes with him already and have already signed up for another one in the fall. Respects his students and very enthusiastic about what he does. Always there to talk if you're having an issue. Hemmeter is the man.

I feel very grateful to have been able to study under Dr. Hemmeter during my time at Arcadia. He is the quintessential eccentric English prof and most of us loved him for it. While he takes the craft seriously, he is very willing to help you along the way and is very understanding of students who are having a rough time outside of class.

Hemmeter is eccentric, which makes him a good, engaging professor. He loves the material and if you are also genuinely interested, you'll be good to go. He's not an easy grader but he listens to student concerns, is willing to help you understand what he wants and how to produce it, and seems laid back enough to me. Cool guy.

The man is one of the most knowledgeable people around. He knows English backwards and forwards, former head of the writing center. One of his problems is that his assignments are ambiguous, but his criteria is very specific. Once you know what he wants, he is happy. Great for good writers who are lazy. Loves revision.

He gives a lot of time for writing essays, lets you rewrite them if you are unhappy with your grade and got a B+ or lower, pushes back due dates often, and will give lengthy responses to any questions asked that cover everything. Boring, but honestly a good teacher if you're looking to learn something.

Dr. Hemmeter is a REALLY tough grader, but so long as you do the work and come to class prepared to lead it if need be, you'll learn A LOT from him. This is no pleasure class... You have to be serious about literature to succeed in it.

I learned alot, in spite of his often confusing directions. Dr. Hemmeter is extremely smart and knws his subjects, but much of the reading material is boring to th epoint of making me cry. His class dictates your endurance and ability to presevere, read between the lines, and to listen to everyone around you--it is the only way to be successful. H

Hemmy is a good guy with a bad reputation. He might not win any public speaking awards, but it you try in his class he will help you. He gives you back as much effort as you give him which is only fair.

Dr. Hemmeter [or Hemmey as many people refer to him as...haha] is a good teacher. At first I didn't like him because he can be rather confusing and he is a hard grader, but once you understand what he is looking for it's pretty easy. You can learn a lot from him if you try and he is so funny.
