You either like or hate him. I really couldn't care less. I went from getting As and Bs in my english classes on papers to complete Fs!! He has his own grading scale PLUS it feels like he is grading at a univeristy + level and he is teaching my class at a community college!! UGGHHHH I wouldn't want him back here at all.

This class has been my most enjoyable here at KU, and I really felt like I took something from it other than a grade. Dr. Thurman won't stand up front and lecture you all day, he sparks conversation among the class over the poems. I'm an engineering major and loved this class. And for the record, you can get out with an A if you work for it.

Mr. Thurman's poetry class was extremely difficult and boring. He was not an easy grader and didn't give out hardly any A's. He is an older man who is very soft spoken. He demands a lot and if you aren't interested in reading and writing a lot of papers then DEFINITELY don't take him!

My favourite english class of all time. Unlike most courses at KU, this one I actually learned something. Best money I've spent so far. I took his class, I worked hard, I learned a lot about poetry and gained the ability to talk about poems like a true scholar. I couldn't ask for more. P.S. I failed Comp 1 and brly passed 2 and I got a B enuff said

Though he can be cryptic at time, he is a very good professor. He demands a lot of his students because he wants them to learn to think and evaluate for themselves, but I think I've learned more from him than any other English teacher I've had!

Dr. Thurman is an excellent poetry professor for students who are genuinely interested in learning about poetry. If you are not interested in poetry, do not take his class. His class may only leave you frustrated and confused. If you are, however, interested in poetry, take Dr. Thurman’s class and prepare to learn.

This teacher is clearly a ****. He is rude and makes ridiculous comments to the minorities in the class. Had I known how he was before I took his class I never would have put myself in the position to be harassed the whole time just because of my skin color. Something needs to be done with him. He's pushing ninety, he needs to retire!
