Really enjoyed this class because the topic is interesting to me. Tests usually have 50 multiple choice questions, they can be tricky so you'd better study. Mr. Poe gives Study Guides that he has prepared for all the chapters, fill in the blanks. Pretty easy and this makes you read the chapter, which you have to do to pass the tests.

Answers questions. Explains anything you need an explanation on. Take notes during lecture, and fill in the study guides by reading your textbook. Study your lecture notes and study guide for exams. Helpful to take Lab course same semester. Turn off cell; don't bring laptop; arrive on time; no side conversations and do extra credit too.

His lectures are looong and monotone. Tons of information to remember and it is presented in no logical order which makes it very hard to retain. He lectures on information not in the book,and sometimes tests on it,sometimes not. Hard to know what to study! He also snaps and lectures students like theyre children CONSTANTLY.Very awkward.No laptops.

He can be pretty dry during lecture, but he does make sure everyone knows the material. He also gives out a great study guide for the tests! Just do your part and you will do well in his class.

Comment:

I took Professor Poe last fall semester, and would give him a good rating overall. His class is easy IF you take the time to study. He provides you with a study guide, use it!! I got an A in his class, but it was mostly due to studying the textbook and memorizing the study guide. If you fail his class, you probably shouldn't be in college.

Even though he may be boring, his class is so easy. I took him twice. Take notes on what he puts on the overhead (which is just stuff highlighted from the textbook), study them, and you'll get an A. It's really that simple. He also gives out extra credit.

Having his class last semester, I fell asleep about 70% of all classes. It was hard not to do even when I was seated right in front of him. He was very nice, but he needs to seriously move around or change the tone in his voice and turn on some lights. He creates the perfect environment to fall asleep.

Loved his teaching method. I understand way better. His study guides are awesome and really help with the test. He is a nice man and funny. I am taking a class next semester at like 8pm strictly because he is the instructor.

You have to teach yourself in his class. Going to his classes are pointless because you won't learn anything you will just be bored to death, your book will become your best friend. Test are very easy all multiple choice.

Having him is probably the reason why I love Biology so much. Best professor I've ever had. Easy A. I took Bio in high school and got a C, but in both of his classes I got A's. He likes to be sarcastic towards his students, don't take it personally, he's just a funny dude.

Poe is an amazing biology professor. I had him for both BIO1060 and BIO1070. If i could take him again, i would. I always loved biology all through high school, though. If you are taking the class because you have to, not because you love biology, you might fall asleep! But he is great.

A fair teacher compared to Dr.O. Grades very fair and allows students to complete an extra credit assignment that is worth percentage points. Even if his class is boring you wont find another teacher like him!

Comment:

The students who plan on filing an official complaint against a teacher who provides helpful study guides and does not tolerate THEIR rudeness should re-think their position. If you can't pass Tom Poe's classes with all the help you get, there is a problem with YOU. Also, please learn how to spell. Your ignorance at college level is horrifying.

Mr.Poe is ver RUDE to his students and makes you feel like you are dumb and you can not ask questions. His lab tests are very hard! His lecture be prepared to highlight the whole book! I would not reccommend him as a teacher.

Mr. Poe means well, but be prepaired to teach yourself and ready to highlight everything in the lecture class. He makes you feel stupid sometimes, and is not very clear on what he wants on the test. If you can help it choose another professor.

Extremely boring. Teaches straight from the book. Gives "study guides" but if you them to study for the test, you will fail because none of that info is the test. Getting ruder every semester. Tells at people that they're stupid & yells at the class for the slight thing. Several of us are filing complaints with CSM.

He teaches straight from the book & is very boring. All the tests are scan tron that you don't get to keep. He doesn't break down what is going to be on the tests. If you ask him, he'll tell you everything in chapter. Take Dr. Osterhouse if you can.
