Comment:
He is a very arrogant who seems to have very little interest in teaching and building academically appropriate relationships with his students. In my opinion he seems to not enjoy educating yet does enjoy hearing the sound of his own voice.

It seemed he liked to use big words just to confuse you. I thought the name card thing was a little degrading--what are we, in middle school? The test were short but didn't seem to focus on any major topics; they were all over the place. Some questions were super easy to "In you text, which socialogist said..." He did seem a little self-centered.

Good instructor, but calls on people by name randomly in class. Read the book and course pack and take good notes. Tests are open note! Participate in class(he loves that). Don't be late or disruptive in class(he really hates that). Some exam questions are random words within the chapter, like what does ****Sapien mean?

I would not recommend him for your intro to sociology class. His tests are the book, if you read the book you can get a high B or so. The tests are open notes. Know the terms from the book and write down every persons name in the book. If you do that you’ll be fine, but I would still get a different teacher. To hard of tests for an intro class.

Adams was a pretty good teacher even through he could be a bore at times; be prepared to answer questions, he tends to just choose people randomly. And read the book, if you read and pay attention in class (at least a little bit) you'll pass the test.

Make sure you come to class. Test are on his lecture notes, and it's open note tests. He doesn't fool around. He gets straight to the point and if you don't understand something, he will help you until you do undetstand it. Very nice outside of the class as well.

Comment:
I was very interested in the Intro to Sociology course, as a sociology major/minor. Dr. Adams was very helpful on a personal level, but he's not a very effective instructor. He tends to go off on tangents about things which are rather superfluous, and he's more than a bit full of himself. He's not awful, but there were certainly some annoyances.

I pray this man gets hit by a bus. He is completely in love with himself and is a horrible teacher. How a subject that interesting can make you bored to tears, I have no idea.

Open notes exams, and our class average was around a 65%. I had the second highest grade in the class with a 90%, and when I took notes I wrote down everything from terms, people, dates, latin meanings for words, came to class and took notes. Just be very tidious and you should do OK, he sometimes curves.

Very cocky teacher, talks about himself constantly which is very annoying. No one got A's on the open book/note test. I would NOT recommend taking him!

What kind of teacher gives open book tests and only 2 people get an A in the class? His lectures are boring and the idea of name tags makes me feel like i'm in elementry again

open nots/book tests that you still have to do the readings for, and the tests are still kinda hard. his opinion matters more than the book. he is ok outta class, but how 1st grade of him to make us have 'name tents' or whatever

He does have open book/open note tests but most of the answers are VERY difficult to find so everyone ends up doing horrible on them anyway.

open note, open book tests. you take five exams the whole semester and you get to drop your lowest grade. easy class if you do the reading. he likes to put people on the spot so come to class prepared. you don't have to go to lecture to do well in class.
