This professor is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. Sure, if you do not work, then she won't be happy but, why are you at UVA if not to work hard and produce results? She takes time, she is understanding, she is brilliant-knows her techniques through and through. She is a shoulder to lean on and will get you through the hard times.

Do not take this class if you are a female athlete. No point in reading textbook- she doesn't understand the techniques in it. Also stay away from office hours... she had weird conversations with me about her personal life and likes to hear herself talk.

So helpful. THE BEST. the most helpful professor I have had at UVA. Do NOT pay attention to other comments about being a perfectionist, yes she likes clean borders, but when you get a certain kind of project that requires borders, any professor will want they clean, its embarrassing for you if they are not. I have had her for three semesters.

Akemi is a wonderful teacher. She is fair and understanding. She helped my a lot and I loved that we used multiple different mediums. I loved this class and she is very nice and lots of fun.

This woman's idea of learning to draw is to spend every minute of your life drawing so that you have no option but to get good at it. She doesn't give much instruction and is very vague when she attempts to. Definitely not an easy A, and requires a huge amount of time because the work can be slow and tedious.

Strict on attendence, but if you made an effort to be there on time and didn't make excuses for lateness, she was tolerant. She was helpful with technique advice, but was really looking for the student to solve their own visual problems and over come the challenges of the medium and subject matter. Great class.

she expects really good drawings. she has high standards. a strict grader, dont expect this art class to be a slack. Not recommended if you haven't been a good drawer before or know how to draw well already. a good teacher but i think she's too perfectionist

Bad teacher who doesn't teach. Her idea of teaching is telling you to take out your supplies and start drawing. Also, many projects are boring compared to what other Arts 161 students do.
