Professor Sampedro tries to make global citizens out of her students. Everyone has to do a class presentation. No midterm or final for the Latino NY course; only short quizzes + final research paper. Focuses on current events in Latin America and so it stays very relevant to whats going on in the news and how to make sense of it.

I loved this class. We studies conflicts that are taking place in the world today. The way this class is structured, without exams, has been a great tool for us to really understand instead of memorize. Since there are no exams, there's little pressure on the students.

The lectures are mad boring. Make sure you do the weekly chapter readings. Sometimes when people aren't talking enough in class she'll randomly pull out a pop quiz. There's one essay at the end of the semester that she grades hard so try to get feedback from her before you turn it in. Other than that, the exams were easy and the class was easy.

Excellent class and professor! Latin American and Caribbean studies brings a perspective forward to an almost forgotten region and puts even our own US history in a deeper context. The professor is amazing, obviously a person who cares for the topics and issues and well read and experienced.

There aren't many professor like Prof. Sampedro. I was running the risk of losing my job due to not completing my Master's and all that was left was my essay. During the summer, while on vacation, Prof. Sampedro offered her help and was able to get me through the toughest period of my professional career. Simply put, she is there for her students.
