If you want to ace this class. Make sure pay attention on small details. Her class is easy and manageable if you pay attention during lecture. She gives lot of extra credit and make up speech. Ask her feedback and look for what she is asking. Her midterms and final are easy if you study for 2 hours before a test. Read her manual, it's important!!!

Her tests are difficult (multiple choice with multiple correct answers,) but she'd still give you credit if the whole class missed the same problem. If you need an extension for a homework assignment for whatever reason, she'd likey give it to you. She really wants everyone to pass!

Her required books are written by herself and her colleague (RIDICULOUS). Her lectures make no sense. Students were always confused on the presentation dates and the material, thus missing deadlines. The whole class was a mess. She rushed and tried to shove as much non sense into each class. Skip this professor and find one at WVM!! Thank me later!

Comment:

Fun class, Betty makes it so fun you dont want to miss a class. Shes motivating and inspirational. Participation and sharing your opinion is always welcome and appreciated by all. You can share your opinion and personal experiences which is great. The class is hard work but well worth it. Potluck is a bonus!

Ms. Betty was just amazing, I felt her class was very easy and she's also very nice, she would never be rude or be angry at you for any reason. Took her during summer, and her 3 hours classes during the week felt like nothing because she provides a fun environment with different activities.

Betty is super nice and a very good teacher. I was so nervous about taking this class that I waited to take this class until almost my last semester at Mission. She is a tough grader on speeches so you MUST practice your speeches. She makes it super easy to get an A if you put the effort in and do not take this class lightly.

If you are a native speaker, when you skip class, you can get a good grade too. The tests are very heavy because you need to study all details on several chapters for each test. When she teaches, she jumps from pages to pages, no one can understand where she notices on the book. She loves potluck and posts videos.

When she taught, no one understood where the lecture was. She jumped from pages to pages, everyone got confused. We needed to study all details on the several chapters from a book when we took the test.

I think a lot of people have trouble in her class because she's very direct. As long as you follow directions and read the material you'll be fine. She has potlucks and makes the environment fun and relaxed on speech days.

Comment:

She's very nice and comes off as the "grandmother" type. She's easy to get along with, and one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. There isn't much homework besides writing outlines and research of speech topics. I would recommend this class for anyone not interested in the major.

She is a cheery, high energy teacher who keeps everyone entertained and comes to class fully prepared with multiple activities to help you learn. On the other hand, her activities can be a bit much because they're all over the place. She's also a very strict grader on speeches. Don't take her if English is your second language.

She is very encouraging and tries to point out your positives in class. Make your speeches interesting, choose unique topics, she's seen LOTS of speeches before so don't bore her. She grades hard but gives extra credit opportunities. She will tell you what is on the test so just listen and prepare and you will do fine. Lecture is scattered/fast

For a speech class, it was REALLY hard. She grade very hard. Her midterm and test are fairly easy if you study. If you take her class at night, it seems like she is more laid back. She is fairly understanding when you need to miss class. She's okay but if you want an easy A, she's not your teacher!

very tough teacher. seems cheery, but dont get on her bad side. difficult to get an A in this class, but unfortunately, Mission doesnt give many options for comm teachers. good luck with this one...

Good things: she opens some interested videos when you just start her class. Potlucks. Eat in her class. No more.Bad things: if you pick her class, don't expect to be helped after class: she will show you that she' busy. Don't send email because she's not gonna answer. Don't submit through mailbox. manage on your own, will not learn anything.

Grades very hard on speeches. She will say you don't need power point or posters, but will give you a better grade if you use them! Do your speech on first day, you get away with things missing on speech. She speaks fast and is all over the place. She loves, loves potlucks. Class discussion are cool, but her grading is NOT!!
