The quizzes are open book. He provides outlines that tell you exactly how he wants your speech formatted. Most of the kids in this class are looking for an easy A, and complain because they actually had to work. I have a feeling the bad reviews are from kids who don't have the discipline to complete an associates degree. Good prof.

Comment:

Finals greades not as bad as grades on actual speeches but Dr Bob Jones will tear a student down. His criticism is rude not constructive. The class went from 30-10. He has very little understanding for outside circumstances. He honestly has potential, but seems like he is a little bitter to students now adn is overly rude.

Yes, he is difficult. He expects a lot in your speeches however he clearly tells you what he is looking for in each of his speeches. He offers help days to edit your outlines the day before speeches start. Many do drop this class, but that is just because they do not allow themselves enough time to prepare a speech. Great Prof. would take him again

I took this class and participated as well as I could, he uses such strict and virtually tricky guidelines that on my second speech, which I had him edit/review several times and give me a verbal "okay" on the topic approval , he decided that I deserved an F all because he didn't give "Written" approval. Do not take this class.

I had this guy 3 years and he is so intensly hard.. He is really picky on what you present in class. Gives quizzes that are worth 150 points. Ridiculous! i dont think the material was necessary to be quize on. Also 75% of my class has dropped becauee it is impossible to earn a decent grade!

Not a helpful what so ever. Was overly strict on everything, missing a day would mean 100 points off,coming in on a speach meant a 0 on yours, tests were extremely difficult average was 51%, and he doesn't curve. I dropped his class, and I recommend if you have him do the same unless you're a girl, because he shows bias towards girls.

VERY HARD CLASS!! Other students have told me they have taken this class with another professor that required 1/2 if not 3/4 less work. He is very cocky but, very nice! However extremely strick and doesn't change his rules for nothing or noone. Tests are very hard only 1/4 of class passed. My class of 26 is now down to 14 and we only 1/2 thru.

REDICULOUS* Let's face it anyone who takes this class does so because they need the elective credit. Nobody takes this class with the intent of banging their head on the wall repeatedly GUESSING how they can earn a decent grade and actually learn something usefull. You can replace this credit with Professional Speaking on Main Campus.

this class is USELESS. Its very old school, "dale carnegian" style (hint: you learn to sound like a professional phony), and Dr. Jones makes it nearly impossible to EARN a decent grade. Dr Jones himself is old school, arrogant, and not easy to work with. If you're a pre-business major, see if you can substitute this class with Com 201 / Professional Speaking and take it at the main campus.

The instructor's teaching ability and attitude is vintage. He comes from an older generation of schooling. You may do well, as mentioned, but you will also find yourself working to please the teacher, rather than learn anything at all. I received a high mark, but I still do not suggest taking this course unless you have no choice.

Not a bad class, if you take him for an early class, make sure u can get there. He is very strict on tardies and absences. I never even cracked my book, but did well on all the speaches. Got an A in the class. Just make sure you practice speeches before presenting. Pretty nice guy though, kept me interested.

Truly hated this class. I got a B+, but I did work my butt off to get it. Dr. Bob is interesting, but demands a lot. We had 26 in the beginning, and ended with 9. However, I learned a lot from his class and was proud that I stuck it out. He did state that if you get a "C" in his class you did well.

The first thing he says to the class is "1/3 of you will drop this class by the end of the quarter and hes right." He is a good teacher though but if this class means nothing to you then find a teacher who feels the same.
