I love his class! He is a great professor as long as you put in the work. He connects with students and he truly cares about our education and our grade. He is a tough grader but if you talk to him he will cut you slack.

Professor Gowan is a very tough grader for an intro level class. He expects incoming freshmen to understand every aspect of biology and be able to teach him something he doesn't know-which is impossible. He is a very nice guy and is super smart- he just shouldn't be teaching this course.

Professor Gowan gives a lot of work and expects a lot of you as a student, but will be there for you if you need him. His passion shines through in most everything he does. He uses bad language a lot which can distract from the material.

As a non-science major, I feel like I did better in the course than he expected. While he is an extremely tough grader, he definitely takes note of students who come to him for help when they need it. He has a fun personality and made the 3 hour and 10 minute long class go by fairly quickly.

Dr. Gowan was easily my favorite professor during my time at Randolph-Macon College. I took every course that he taught and did research with him; however, I would caution non-biology or EVST majors from taking his classes. He is very committed to his classes and expects a similar level of commitment from his students. He is an all around great guy

This was a tough class. Your grade almost fully depends on group work so choose your members wisely. He won't help you unless you ask, but once you do he's pretty clear and will most likely cut you some slack. He takes his tests very seriously (as he should). Overall, the class was stressful but I had some good times in there as well.

This guy is a tough grader, but makes sure you have all of the tools and help you need- everyone has a good shot at a B. He is a great paper critic. Getting an A in this class feels like receiving the congressional medal of honor.

Friendly. Knowledgeable. Willing to help you if you approach him. Will help you if you try to help yourself. Wants you to succeed. HARD GRADER! Honest about what he expects on assignments. Gives good details explaining assignments.

The lab work Gowan presented could have been interesting if it was taught by another professor. He expected Freshmen to know how to use Spreadsheets and would not take time to thoroughly explain how certain software works. He certainly took his time helping out my female peers, but left the males in the dark...

hes a really nice guy, extremely funny and really understanding of what students are thinking/going through. however, very very tough grader and sometimes gets a little frustrated. theres a lot of work for this class, and not usually the funnest, but theres a lot of cool labs that he likes doing to make the time go as fast as possible.

Had Chaz as a professor his first year teaching at RMC. He had just come from teaching grad students out west and the course was extremely difficult. He seemed to ease up mid semester and was a great teacher overall. He has an outstanding sense of humor and often took us into the field to learn practically which was fantastic!

Takes an intro to Environmental Studies class and assumes people didn't join the class because they're Business and English majors. Funny guy who loves his subject. Not all of us are Environment majors, dude! Some of us just suck at science!
