Comment:
Great professor who cares a lot about his subject. Not my field, but a formative introduction to political economy. The readings were weighty but fabulous and lectures were informative and hilarious at times, gave me a lot to think about and was what I was looking for in a freshman seminar. Just wished for more diversity in the readings' authors.

Professor Howell is a great lecturer. He explained each topic thoroughly, and made sure to draw connections between the current topic and previous ones. There were a lot of long assigned readings and you don't have to do them all, but if you do decide to tackle them, it won't be a waste of your time. I learned so much in this class!

Chris Howell is an amazing professor but you will only truly learn from his class if you put in the time. The information is valuable regardless but trying to do the heavy reading load is well worth the effort. Easy on papers, can be hilarious, cares about his topic and his students. Don't mention Chelsea. Also.... silver fox.

One of my favorite professors last semester by far. He assigns a lot of reading, but admits that he doesn't always expect you to read it all. He was helpful when I went to office hours, and gave good feedback on weekly comments and papers.

I appreciated Howell's dry humor and socialist lectures. The hardest part of the class was figuring out what he wanted from my weekly reading comments. The trick is to write original opinions, and minimize summary.

Great professor. Smart, funny. Got me really into the topic. A strange collection f mannerisms and poses while lecturing. Also, not an easy teacher, assigns a lot of work.

Political Change. He's extremely smart and interesting to listen to.. at first. This lectures and reading are extremely dense and long. He expects you to remember all the information and to display it all on the tests. I found it hard to stay motivated and interested in this class by the second half of the semester. Heavy on political theory.

Howell is brilliant and makes you work. One of the great professors at Oberlin. This is coming from an alumni. Take his courses, you will remember them. Hilariously dry too.

A solidly good prof. Pretty good lectures (sometimes a bit dull, but his wit saves them), excellent readings (assigns far more than you'll actually get through, but they're all good), and in general pleasant to be in a classroom with. Inexplicably fails to stimulate class discussions, even though he wants them.

Howell is funny, interesting, intelligent, and totally adorable. He assigns a LOT of reading and doesn't always explain all of it in class, but his lectures are always really helpful and engaging.

Really interesting and relevant class. Took us on a field trip to a Ford plant. Knows his stuff, really witty and for some reason a huge Oakland Raiders fan.

Best lectures i've ever had. without any notes, he gets on a roll about a subject and talks until the class is over with extreme clarity and purpose.

He's a madman who paces around while Crowley or B**** are speaking (all 3 teach this class- lucky me). He's the wittiest professor I've had here, and he's passionate about leftist ideology without failing to put it in its place at the same time.

Typical lecture course. Large class, very little discussion. Mr Howell's lectures are quite excellent though, and usually very helpful. Favorite quote: "Did I just say, 'affluent poor'? That's just insane!"
