One of the most passionate teachers I have ever had. He knows his subject very well, and gives amazing lectures. There is a midterm and a final, but if you do the study guide, reading, and pay attention you will easily get an A.

One of the most interesting professors I've ever had. Kept my attention and class was never boring. It was just a midterm and a final with really helpful study guides. I managed a B without ever reading the books... though it would have made my life easier if I had. Highly recommend him.

Just a mid-term and final? I almost had a panic attack when I saw that syllabus. Professor O'Connell provides a new outlook on your everyday interactions. I loved his class and he is a wonderful professor. Exams have study guides so you're fine. Would take another class with him if I could.

Took his classes. Great sense of humour. Very marxist/communist based perspectives however. Some moderate amount of misinformation and revisionism when explaining historical events. I felt like I was being recruited to join the Red Socialist Party by the time it was over. I went on to University and this was the standard though. Play along. Get A+

O'Connell is THE BEST professor I have had since being at Pierce. His lectures are amazing and so in depth. He's controversial and politically incorrect, which is what really makes me like him. The movies and books he shares are really good and he cuts straight through the BS to give you real facts! Almost makes me want to be a Soc major!

Best professor I've ever had, he's the smartest man I've ever met and made me fall in love with the subject. Didn't buy the book but studied from my lecture notes and got an 85%on the midterm, no homeqork no quizzes just midterm and final that are easy to pass because he wants you to learn from them. RECOMMENDED!!

I like to think of Chuck as a discounted professor, since he teaches at UCI also; he's a UC-level professor at CC prices. The grade is based upon two tests, and exam questions are often lecture-based, so attendance is advisable. Overall, he's quite easy and (more importantly) interesting and endlessly entertaining. Love him. Highest recommendation!

Two tests a midterm and final. Must read the book. This guy is a Communist for sure. Sat in the front row. It was nice to hear the bad stuff about the US for once. Take him if you would follow Che/Listen to lots of Rage/Believe in secular humanism or want to hear all the bad stuff about capitalism and how the workers are getting screwed.

Dr. O'Connell is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is incredibly intelligent and his intense passion for what he teaches in contagious. Professor O'Connell is incredible. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches and his lectures are fascinating. I would take his other class in a heartbeat if I could fit it into my schedule. He is very energetic and he curses a lot but itjust gives his lectures more impact. He is very nice and funny had has great stories. Highly recommended!
