Dr. Askmans class was really fun!! Hes such a caring and genuine professor, and really makes it a point to accommodate his students. His grading is a little tough, but not unbearable.

I really enjoyed Professor Askman's class. I took Hawaiian History with him, going into the class thinking it would be boring, but I was wrong. His lectures and way of teaching made the course really engaging and interesting, and he was able to answer any question on the topic. I highly recommend him as a professor.

Great history teacher, made it interesting and easy to understand. You can tell he is extremely knowledgable about his field. Would take again. Important to go to class and take good notes to prepare you for tests.

I love him so much!!! Best teacher ever! Many field trips, easy papers and tests (we can use a flashcard for the midterm and final) and the history of Hawaii is so interesting!

Easy grader. Only used the textbook for the paper. Long paper due at the end of the semester. Instructions for the essay are in the syllabus so it's worth working on early.

Comment:

I love Living History of Hawaii, mainly because it is history I have never been taught before or even heard of. It is just a lecture and field trip class, but the lectures are super interesting and easy to follow. Attendance is taken every class. It says every night there is reading but the reading is basically exactly what he is going to cover in lecture the next time. Absolutely love the field trips, we have gone on two so far and have two more to go on. He is a really good teacher and is very understanding. Would recommend.

Amazing professor! His overall course is based around his lectures so take good notes. There are also a few papers, like 2 or 3, on field trips or topics during the lecture. Nothing too much. His midterm and final are essays which he will give out the topics a week before. He knows his stuff and is very clear! Definitely would recommend!

This is actually the second class I have had Dr. Askman and I would still take him again. He is such a good teacher! His lectures are interesting and you can tell he really knew his stuff. I loved the historical field trips, all walking distance from the class. As long as you show up for the lectures and write notes you will do good.

There are 9 grades. Midterm and final essay questions are given to students a week before test. STUDY THEM! The other 7 grades are participation, attendance, volunteering for 10 hours and 4 small essays. The lectures are pretty boring but act engaged or he will take participation points away.

His lectures are long and confusing, but the assigned work is very easy. YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP and take notes or you probably won't pass. He gives good outline of the course ahead of time and the grading isn't very tough.

REALLY awesome teacher!!! I did so well in that class because he lectures very organized and always asks question (i was one of those people that answers every question) and he doesn't grade hard at all! Not too much work, and his quizzes are simple (fill in the blank) just make sure to take notes in class! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Absolutely the best professor I've ever had! Period! Learned so much and actually enjoyed it! The mandatory attendance can be kind of a bummer, but the reason is you can end up missing so much from just one lecture. Overall, he's a super sweet guy, and an amazing teacher!

Dr Askman is possibly my favorite history teacher so far. His lectures kept my sleep-deprived classmates awake and interested. His quizzes are easy if you take notes during class (which is easy because he writes it all on the board). You only need to write three papers, (one 1-page, two 2-page, 3 out of 8 readings are your options).

A great teacher! If you take notes every day and study them before you take the quizes you'll get an A. He is very cool and very clear on what you need to know! 3 papers, 4 quizes and a midterm and final. Really not that much work but just enough to make you learn.
