Comment:

Calc 2 is a difficult course no matter the professor however if you even slightly struggled in calc 1 then buckle up. Calc 2 with John is extremely difficult because she flies through topics. There are 3 tests (each 15%), mymathlab online hw (many !, which is 10% of your grade), quizzes (we had 15, total worth 15%) and the final is DIFFICULT(30%)

Comment:

She's a sweet woman but she can not teach to save her life. She runs through material very quickly. She also gives an unnecessary amount of homework that is enhanced which means the problems are harder. She also has this habit of teaching the concept with easy problems then giving you the hardest ones on the test with no warning.

This math instructor is terrible, absolutely terrible! She is hard to understand and she only goes over one problem before setting you to the wolves. I would avoid her if possible.

Comment:

One of the hardest classes I have ever taken at VCU. She is extremely hard to understand and goes SUPER fast. Too many quizzes that ruin your grade. The amount of homework she gives is ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and think twice before taking this class with her. Sweet lady, just a really bad professor.

has a bit of an attitude when you ask for help during her office hours and admits that the online homework (wiley) does not help and only ruins your grade. goes through problems fast. i'm not the best at math but i'd like to say that i'm decent. i literally switched from stat 210 to alg 141 & never thought someone could make alg so difficult

all Math classes at VCU are hard, calc is nothing different. Prof John does go through the problems quickly but she does ask for questions.

Mrs. John is really nice, but she simply is not a good lecturer. I only got an A in the class because I took calc in high school and I reviewed my high school notes. If you have never taken calc before and want to do well in the class do not take her. She purposefully makes problems with really hard algebra and does not teach well.

Her only redeeming quality is that she is a nice lady and is very good one-on-one. Her grading is impossible she only grades for positive points and rarely gives partial credit. She moves very quickly through lectures and handwrites them, even though her handwriting is illegible half the time.

Comment:

Ms. John is a very helpful, informative teacher. If you are willing to put in time and effort to get a good grade, you will easily do so. Having taken Calc in high school was a big help for this class, and she was easily accessible to talk during her office hours each week. She is very supportive if you are an active student!! Take this class!!!

Comment:

Honestly, she isn't a bad person. But Professor John did not know the info necessary to teach the class which was frustrating (I knew more than her and had never taken any class remotely similar). Worksheets are twice a week with the occasional test, and she is a picky grader. All in all, it is an easy A, but she wasn't a good fit for the class.

She is the most redundant, quizzical teacher I ever had. I took Cal in high school and passed with an A. However I take her class and I get a B. She fuses like we are her children. I strongly believe she has a psychotic disorder because she scratches her head, whispers things to herself, and thinks the class was learning when we weren't. DONT TAKE!

Professor treated students like high schoolers. She taught the material way too quickly and in result many students failed her course. She had no phone usage and no eating rules, and if she even saw your phone out on the desk not being used she refused to answer questions. She would also stop teaching if there was even the faintest whisper.

I thought she was a really nice person and willing to help but tests and quizzes were WAY harder than what we learned in class and than the homework we were assigned. The week before one test I went in to dropping tutoring, office hours and individual tutoring appointments every single day and I still got a 68 on her test.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. if you want to pass math do not take it with her. Terrible teacher who doesn't care about student success. grades harshly and according to what SHE would do, not what is CORRECT.

Very frustrating class to attend. She is rude, annoying, and most importantly, an awful teacher. She doesn't know what she's talking about and when you ask her questions she can't and won't explain anything. She grades harshly. Please just avoid if you want a chance of passing your math class.

Very hard class to stay in. When you ask a question on the material, most of the time she ignores it and moves on because there "isn't enough time." Gets very agitated when you don't understand something or do not know the answer. All homework graded for accuracy.

Terrible teacher. worst math teacher i have had in my life. Avoid having her as a teacher at all costs. She makes you seem stupid for not understanding. Not willing to help. Just completely awful.

Mrs. John is really sweet and quirky, but when it comes to Calc she's hard to understand. She's a bit scatterbrained and will do another problem while already working on a different problem, and it can get confusing easily. Her tests and quizzes however are pretty straightforward. I'd recommend taking her, but get a tutor if math is hard for you.

I have taken this class before and I don't have a bloody clue what she is talking about half the time. The people around me are completely lost and I can't blame them. She uses overly long methods to solve problems and makes mistakes. She cannot explain why to do things a certain way half the time. Terrible Teacher.
