Really Really nice person. He is very helpful if you have any questions, the TA in this class was a life safer. The class is tough but all you really need is the book so MEMORIZE it. But Dr. Hanson is one of the nicest sweetest professors at umbc, he's one of the only professors i've ever had at umbc who ALWAYS reply's to his email asap!

I had him as my advisor and professor. He's an extremely nice person. But as per his exams, they are extremely hard. Sometimes there would be two answer to a question.Study the textbook and the figures and definetly go over the old exams.

Wonderful Guy. Just read the entire book, and know every picture/explanation in chapters 5-16. Tests are a **** (class avg was about 50-60%) He did offer 1% EC for attending the URCAD. I would definitely take another class he is teaching, but I think hes retiring. A shame.

Took both Animal and Physiological Basis of Behavior. He is a wonderful professor, helpful in any way you need, a bit slow, but only to make sure you understand. GO TO CLASS! it's essential. He is a sweet kind old man, but he knows what he's talking about.

He's a nice guy and when you talk to him about certain topics he's nice and patient about it. But the way he tests you and the questions he uses for some reason are extremely difficult and unorthodox that it's next to impossible to get a decent grade. He sometimes does, and doesn't use essay formats. Be prepared to read your ass off though.

Such a nice guy its almost hard to hate him. His lectures are BORING. He talks so quietly and slowly and to himself that by the 3 week of the semester most of the students stop showing up. Exams will kill you, despite the low curves (65%-> B). Suggestion: drink lots of coffee, go to class, take notes like never before, forget the book.

Hanson is a great guy, in spite of his nerdy quirks. He teaches slowly from his powerpoints and his jokes aren't always good, but at least he tries. He is very nice and I haven't had the same problems understanding his lectures as other posters. Tests are kinda hard, but if you go to class most of the time and read a little, you'll be fine.

Hanson, is a great professor! You really have to read the book and be prepared to discuss the material. Read the book but focus on the figures , understand it and you will be fine! He curves A LOT! 65% was a B. His exams are essays, he wants you to be able to comprehend the information instead of memorizing.

horrible professor. exams arent from notes. sometimes it seems like all his powerpoints googled. as all other fellow raters said that hes extremely unclear. wastes time on his stupid jokes and on unimportant stuff. his grading is horrible too. i hate him errrrrrr...

hard to follow! unclear! the two reasons I achieved an A in this course is 1) I took a psyc course at the same time, and much of the material overlapped., and 2) he conducts a study session BEFORE each test that clearly identifies what you need to know.

Class wasn't worth attending. Notes and lectures were an outline of the text and were most of the time confusing. Monotone voice is hard to follow and points weren't clearly made. Tests were difficult and really hard to study for even if you go to class and read the chapters.

He had some good jokes in the lectures, maybe you have to pay attention to catch them. Also, maybe it was better over summer session, with a smaller class size. It is a difficult class, if you think m/c tests are easy, take this class! You will learn and retain a lot, though. I think it was a good class and he's a good guy.

This class was very difficult. I never missed class, took notes and studied for hours and never got higher than a 66% on a test. He curves a lot and I got a B but it was the hardest one I have ever worked for.
