Comment:

Dr. Karriker is a fantastic band director. He expects good things from his students and we need to put in effort to succeed. As a musician, I find nothing wrong with that. Instead that is a good thing in an ensemble setting. Overall I think Dr. Karriker is a very good professor and I recommend getting involved in band if you aren't already.

Comment:

He's far too prideful about his position, and it seriously shows in his class. He's the kind of teacher who will never be satisfied with you and will put you down for it regardless of how much effort and time you put in. He knows that he's better than you and makes sure you know it too. He's rarely free to meet during his office hours.

Comment:

Dr Karriker is a decent conductor, but is not good at assisting struggling students, particularly on instruments he hasn't played. For instance, he insisted that I hold my instrument improperly during band believing his way to be correct. He is also an inefficient user of rehearsal time and spends more time than needed on small parts of the music.

Dr karriker is the best conductor I've had the chance to be under. He is very clear in his beats, and is very good at expressing what he wants. He makes me love band again, and I look forward to being in symphonic band after winter break.

Very vague in descriptions on how to conduct. Practice a small movement throughout class, then rush through examples for a recitation the next class. We asked if he would have office hours that we could get help, he said no that we needed to figure this out ourselves. Also, I waited over 2 hours for a video review; he has no respect for your time.

Dr. Galen Karriker is by far the greatest teacher I have had in my entire life. He may not know your name at first but when working with 160 members you gotta give him some credit for doing what he does. He is understanding and will do anything to make you a spot in his band. i highly recomend him.

I was highly disappointed with this educator. As a first year member of marching band he made it the worst experience of my life. He will never learn your name, he makes you practice in ridiculous weather conditions, if you commute he is inconsiderate that you may have car problems and be late, and he makes band not fun to be in at all.

He is awesome!! He is dedicated to his job, very knowledgeable, and a wonderful guy. He is not afraid to single people out. If you don't like that get over it you're in college not high school. He will make you a better musician if you listen to what he has to say and apply it. So happy that I get to be a part of his band!!! Love this guy :)

Very well-educated, knows his stuff. He writes all of the shows and stands tunes, and he's very good at what he does. He strives for excellence at every game, and he knows how to get the band riled up and excited about what they do. He composes simple (and a few complicated) pieces that are well-known and interesting. Overall, a great instructor.

Honestly one of the WORST professors I have ever had. Made many promises to give personal lessons to get people up to par and never comes through. He makes it VERY obvious that he believes he is WAAAAAY better then you. He has literally ruined my love for marching band, and Im not the only one tho thinks this. He is the WORST educator ever.

We in the trumpet section miss you!! First off he's a hard a** who doesnt put up with complaining. Once you get to know him he's a great guy, especially outside of class. He's got a lot of firsthand experiance from his drum corps days. The U of A Marching Band owes a lot to him and excelled under his leadership.

Comment:

Loved M band with Karriker. Some people thought he was tough, but those were the people who didn't transition well from a rinky dink little HS band. He expects a lot of himself, & the same of his students. His high standards were what kept us from looking like fools on the field.
