Very knowledgeable and very good at explaining the material. Plenty of extra credit opportunity. Expectations are very clear and easily achieved with a reasonable amount of effort.

Gives 10 programs with a ton of extra credit. Tests are just repeating the programs with no note sheet. Can be repeatative. Nice enough guy. Programs should be weighted greater than they are. Overall average professor

Hard to say, but spend a lot of times on his program. Comparing with Michael Geiger, i would say if Prof. Geiger teaches this course, i 100% would not take his course!

Programs are tough and take up most of your time, but only count for 20% of your grade. The time I spent programming was more than all of my other classes combined and oinly 2 out of 7 programs worked for me. Tests were only 3 questions and so on the only two we had I got D's from messing up one question. Did alright on the final and managed C-

20+ hrs/week workload. Have to memorize prof's design and replay on exams. Tough grading. Communication of questions via online discussion forum is ineffective. Took up both days of every weekend. I did OK, but it was mostly regurgitating profs code on exams, less about learning the concepts of embedded systems/RTOS. Not worth it,

VERY hard course and professor, but you learn. You'll know transistors well, though, how useful is that in today's world? I'd rather he spent more time showing op amps in useful circuits rather than building one from scratch. Kind of like learning the history of electronics, rather than how to do something useful.

Data Structures is one of the hardest classes at Umass Lowell. He is a great professor, but he often forgets about peoples outside lives. He expects you to devote at least 20 hours a week to your homeworks, and if you have other classes or work, he says dont let them get in the way. Apparently he forgot what college was ACTUALLY like...

Cheney is one of the best professors I have ever had. Clear teaching, good chalkboard style (tablet computer + projector, in his case), all notes end up on the web. Some hard homework, very fair tests. Final project is very instructive. Go to class, do the work and you will know transistors inside-out by the end.

Best professor I ever had. Systematic, clear, captivating, inventive in examples and projects. Course project will not be a toy, so expect to work a lot. Starter/warmup code is provided, covering most tedious 30-70% of the work. Grades are based on a comprehensive and systematic analysis of your work for style, errors, and features. Very useful!!

Very structured and effective professor. If approached, he is extremely helpful, to the point where he'll go through your code line by line with you. Assignments are sometimes brutal but always fair; you WILL learn the material. Some projects are kinda fun, too.

This course is extremely competive to get in by entrance exam. Alot of time required for programming assignments. Most of time at the end will be devoted to project. Ridiculously large textbook but Cheney covered key concepts. Tough prof but very good
