I took Dr. Yates in the Summer, and as a transient student only at YSU for one semester, Dr. Yates is still one of the best professors I've had. He gave plenty of time for questions during class, and was always willing to go more in depth with those who asked. His clear excitement and interest in the subject made the class more fun.

I love math, but I absolutely loathed this class. Difficult was an understatement. The actual content was not difficult but the way he taught was in such a round-about way that it made everything seem 10x harder. I will say that he grades fairly. If you are good at teaching yourself everything, then this is the class for you.

The worst math class Ive ever taken. So incredibly boring and you definitely have to teach yourself. I will say that I was certain I was going to get a C and ended up with a B which was nice. Still, Im SO glad its over.

This was by far the worst math class I've ever taken. He's not helpful when you have questions in class. He says things like we don't have time for this many questions. His tests, especially the final, are brutal.

By far the hardest class I've taken thus far in college. Tests are extremely difficult for someone who is not an absolute genius at math but Professor Yates is pretty generous when it comes to partial credit. Make sure to do the WEBASSIGN homework and look over notes as well as quizzes to prepare for exams.

This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken, I had a 4.0 in highschool and got a 98 in calc 1, Calc 2 i was lucky!! to walk away with a C. I went to the math assistance center ever day, had help from a friend and met with the professor. Math is usually very easy for me and this was rediculously hard. Yates will work 1 on 1 with you.

If you can take calc with another professor, don't think twice. Dr. Yates is very hard to understand and basically writes notes that he took himself on the board. Asking questions doesn't help much because he can't really explain them. Homework & quizzes weekly, 3 tests, and a final. Avoid Dr. Yates unless you like learning things on your own.

Great class, He doesn't check homework, and the quizzes and tests are very straightforward. He is a little unclear, and when he answers a question in class, it really doesn't make things any better. I usually get the "jist" of it in class. If you're good at learning things on you're own, you should get an A

Helpful and always there during office hours.Homework does not align with the weekly quizzes or exams. Does plently of proofs but not examples so I thought it was hard to learn from him. Offers some bonus though but the bonus was REALLY hard and took hours and I still didnt get all of it right

Yates knew the material very well himself, but wasn't very good at explaining it. It was a very boring class. Many people fell asleep in it. It was possible to get an A if you studied hard, but most people in the class averaged a B or C.

Diff was easy & although he's dry, he's very fair. He loves derivation, so bear through the proofs but the material itself isn't hard. YSU only goes through ODE's in Diff, so it stays basic. There's some opportunity for extra credit, do it! Final isn't bad & we were allowed to use Maple (learn how to use it - it's a lifesaver!). Great prof!

He wasn't that great of a teacher and i think it is because his knowledge goes beyond the math that he taught us. I pretty much taught myself the material and didn't take any of his notes cause he confused himself and us often. Also, if you take him, you'll have to do these 3 projects that blow. So take someone else.

He tries to teach but I think he is too knowledgable to teach this class, you have to be able to learn on your own and do they homework, he accepts ?s but can't always answer them,

Very nice guy. This calss was way beneath him concidering that he is an expert in fluid dynamics. It showed too, he thought that you should be familiar with most of the material. I believe that he would be suited to an upper division class. Tough tests.

very difficult teaching style. poor job explaing where numbers are coming from. over 15 kids dropped this class including myself. Would not suggest taking him as a prof. He is a very polite and nice gentleman, just not a good teacher.
