Comment:
Professor Karras is a solid professor. While his lectures aren't very engaging, he explains things clearly and gladly takes questions. While attendance wasn't taken, he would give out quizzes unannounced. His grading system is also very fair. I would recommend him.

Lots of concepts and graphs understanding. Two different grading criteria. Generally, sum all scores up. However, if scores of quizzes, project, and final exam are higher than the other scores, then the higher score will be double as your final score. Project is easy. Quizzes are multiple choices. Exams are usual questions and some calculations.

Lectures are boring as watching paint dry. Not necessarily a hard class to pass with him if you apply yourself, but as far as engaging the class or discussion as a means of learning it all is just lecturing and him reading off the powerpoint slides.

Very hard to understand, constantly uses tiny graphs that he constantly adds too much information onto and erases quickly. Read the book to understand the material.

Very enthusiastic and passionate. Goes through material very quickly and will repeat material if you have a question but won't re-phrase his explanation so his answers are not very illuminating or clarifying. Didn't go to class all semester, still passed- Just learn the material (pretty easy) on your own. Midterm optional

Lectures aren't mandatory and they're posted on Blackboard. There's only 2 exams and 2 homework assignments so make sure to study and plan accordingly. The test questions may be tricky so if you're confused by the PowerPoints make sure to meet with the professor. He's very good at making appointment if you can't make his office hours.

If you're interested in macro then you must take Karras' class. His lectures are clear and the theory in them is backed up with data from the real world, which helps a great deal. The structure is two homeworks and one project (all easy) and two exams (relatively difficult unless you really study). Put in the work and you will learn a ton.

I breezed through every Econ classtook to complete my minor until this class. He is incredibly smart and understanding however I don't feel his lectures prepare you for the homework/quizzes/tests . It is super math heavy and all he does is go over the formulas and their implications but never works through the problems

One of the hardest class that I have taken. Lectures were always really boring & long. His lectures are pretty dry & lecture material is indeed very mathematical & confusing. HOWEVER, when you take the time to actually study and look over his notes it makes a lot of sense. The prof. is also VERY helpful and willing to help. Work hard & youll get A!

Professor Karras is probably the hardest econ professor I had in my 4 years. Very mathematical. Tests are terrible. Going to class may help you but its not necessary. 4 quizzes, 2 homeworks, Midterm, and final. I just wish he taught stuff that was less theoretical and more applicable to real economics. Nice guy though.

Professor Karras is one of the best economics professors at UIC. He does his best to make you succeed in the class. He has some of the best notes that I have seen--more mathematical, though. Usually, it is difficult to pay attention for more than 1 hour, but the notes are online, anyway. We spent 45 mins on one slide, for instance. A fun class.

He's a good teacher. Knows what he's talking about!Lectures are boring but if you study hard for the final and do good on the country project (which is easy) you'll be fine.

The lectures are very dry and will put you to sleep. Homework and country project are easy! Lectures are online so print them and use that for your homework/country project. Exams are difficult, but there is a curve! He knows his stuff!

EXAMS ARE HARD!!! Hardest exams at UIC to date!! The guy obviously knows what hes talking about, but he is mostly a graduate professor and it seems like a 400 level class. Only upside is you don't have to go to class because the notes are online (not that they help anyways).

Karras is one of the coolest and best professors I ever had. I love this men. He is lenient with grading and he loves when you ask questions. I recommend him, if you want an A, do the homework and spend one or two hrs studying for the test and is completely possible.

My man! This professor is so rational, he understand the college life and knows that students have other classes or jobs, so he only gives out 2 homeworks, one midterm, one easy arse project and a final. They're all easy, and he's always there for help when needed. CHEERS TO YOU PROFESSOR!
