Comment:

I am glad that I chose to take Mr. Spurgeon for my writing classes! He has a great sense of humor, and actually makes class fun. We discussed all kinds of topics, and I love that I was given the freedom to write about something that interested me. He really cares for his students, and gives excellent feedback and encouragement. Wonderful teacher!

Joe has an odd sense of humor but he really tries to motivate his students to take pride in the efforts they put forward. As a nursing major I really appreciate how much to expects out of his students, its worth the tuition to have a teacher who doesn't allow BS from students.

Joe is a great guy. Very blunt,yet not intimidating. I hated writing before his class,but now I love it. I also was not a good writer before,yet I ended with a b+ paper which I would have never been able to write if it wasn't for Joe. I took his wr115,wr121, and wr122. I started with D papers. Definitely recommend him.

Great teacher. Encourages students to learn more about their interests and futures through his assignments. He really knows his stuff, and lets you know EXACTLY what he wants for an A paper.

Joe is the funniest teacher I've ever had. Even the way he talks is funny. Writing comes pretty easily to me, so I already knew a lot of what he taught, but he was clear and concise. Plus he brings his daughter to watch my Nutcracker every year! Very cool guy. Also wrote me a great reference for scholarships.

Spurgen is rude, makes fun of and belittles students in front of the class. For some reason requires students to send in final work for publication... no choice in the matter. He is very abrupt and cold...quite unhelpful if a student has a misunderstanding. I and many others who have taken his class have an extreame dislike for the man.

Oh my gosh...this guy is the man. I have never had a teacher that was so funny, and kept on topic of his lesson. Unique sense of humor...can be very dry and crude, but is hilarious. I wouldn't say that he can be a clown, but just knows when to use a good comment. Interesting class...really feel like I'm learning something. If you hate writing, TAKE SPURGEON!!! or if you are thinking about quitting school, this guy makes you want to be in class.

This teacher is an "XXXXXXX" but the best english teacher I have ever had. If you can put up with rude humor the entire time then you'll love him. If you have not tolerance for tough attitude and blunt behavior, avoid this guy like the plauge. I think his style gets the point across clear as day.

Joe is one of my favorite professors. He made writing fun and enjoyable. I learned a lot from him. He doesn't hand out A's, as they must be earned. His grades are not based on his personal opinion about a subject matter, which I so appreciated.
