He was a good lecturer for sure. He explains things clearly and occasionally cracks jokes. I didn't need to read the textbook at all. There's also easy online hw to boost your grade. As for his tests, they're straightforward. He tells you that he's testing for the knowledge and isn't trying to trick you and he means it.

I took AP Calculus AB in high school and passed the AP test, yet I still found this class to be quite difficult. The class was graded by homework 25%, midterm 30%, and a final 45%. Hass can be a little slow and boring during lectures. For his midterms and finals, you should know the definitions of some of the theorems of calculus.

Overall, a very solid Math professor. He's funny, and explains the information pretty well. His midterm was fair, and the final was as well. No quizzes, so besides the tests it's just homework thats required. He's pretty chill and so is the class!

Joel Hass actually put effort into his lectures and didnt just simply follow the textbook. He was willing to answer questions inside and outside of his class and his tests were very manageable. Homework was 20% of the grade so that was definitely an added bonus.

I took AP Calculus AB/BC in HS so this class was pretty easy for me. However, if you didn't take calculus prior to this class, uhhhhh, good luck. His lectures were fairly useless and unorganized. He would often skip from one topic to another which made it hard to follow. Midterm and final was pretty easy if you study. HW can take a long time.

World best math teacher. Very inspirational and funny. Only one midterm needed and no weekly quiz. Five attempts for homework questions so it is easy to get full marks. I love him! Definitely would take him again.

Really funny and down to earth, cares about his students. Doesn't believe in trick questions, just wants to know that you understand the concepts that he teaches. Your grade depends highly on your exams (midterm was 30%, final was 45%).

Every tool to succeed is there and Professor Hass is very helpful. Majority of the final grade was based on the midterm and final but there was a lot of helpful homework and practice exams.

Professor Hass is meh. His lectures were not really thought out. He would just do problems from the textbook. He also doesn't cover all the content that is required for the midterm and final. I learned more from my TA than him. I think the content of 21C is difficult for most people. I had to read the textbook on my own and I still did poorly.

The final was half of the grade. He struggles to do simple math and didnt respond to an email I sent him 4 times over a two week span.

For a class as daunting as 21C, Hass is as good as it gets. The homework wasn't too bad, the midterm was normal difficulty. But then the final was incredibly easy, almost out of nowhere. He's a super nice guy who is pretty useful in office hours, and compared to other math professors, about as good as it gets. Not perfect, but you will do well.

Midterm and Final was simpler than homework. Very hard to find a 21 series professor like Hass who anticipates that many students aren't very advanced at math. He assigns very little homework that is worth 20% of grade and designs his tests without any tricks, just extremely basic problems. Overall a very engaging lecturer as well.

As an actual author of the textbook you have for this class, he knows (mostly) what he's talking about and provides pretty clear examples for things. Goes at a fair pace and lectures are pretty easy to follow. Just beware of falling asleep in class as he has the voice for it. Otherwise, he's pretty funny and is one of the better math professors imo

MAT21A was a breeze with Hass. I took high school calc so none of the material was new, but he presented in a straightforward, concise manner that made it easy to sit through. Weekly homework easy, some quizzes in discussion and one midterm and the final. Very, very, very straightforward and easy if you have taken calc before.

If you've taken Calculus before, you shouldn't have many difficulties in the class because Hass is a great lecturer. He's concise but also helps you develop a better understanding. Like someone else said, the TAs grade your quizzes, midterm, and final, and they can be very harsh graders. It's not Hass's fault though.
