Comment:

No wonder he's got a low rating. I admit that he is a good musicology and knows lots of things, but as a teacher? for undergrads? Pew Unorganized lecture, weird obsession of having the descks lined up, and the questions on tests are nonsense. Nothing he talks in class is on tests but only those meaningless details you find in scholarly journals.

Comment:

Great Musicologist. One of the worst teachers I have ever had. He believes there is only one effective learning style and he demands his students adhere to it. Micromanaging students, his inflexibility would be better correcting typos in a music history book than teaching. He doesn't teach. He distracts. God help you.

Avoid if you can. Stress-inducing, condescending, doesn't listen to your questions, interrupts students as they are speaking in discussion or asking him a question. Seriously like talking to a wall when you ask for help. You do learn to teach yourself though, so I guess that's important..

I hated him. His tests are on way too much information, he changed the information on tests the night before. He uses the class to show off his little knowledge about every subject instead of the course and his mediocre singing ability. He got upset when students called him out on changing test material. Honestly, Koegel BLOWS.

He's not as bad as everyone says he is. Weekly quizzes are pretty easy if you read the chapters but his study guided for the test are really vague so you just gotta pay attention and read. Takes attendance

Takes daily attendance. Weekly quizzes are easy if you've paid even minimal attention. Seating chart but you pick your seat, so choose wisely. Likes calling on people but if you sit near the sides there's a good chance he won't call on you. The "concert report" is really a research paper so focus on that rather than the concert/play you go to.

I hate this teacher. I would die if I had to take him ever again. He has a seating chart, we have a quiz every week with a scantron, he gets mad when you want to leave his class to go to the restroom. We signed wavers saying we wont bring electronics to class (computers).He is a nut and he is very unflexable. Don't take him!!!

By far the worst teacher I've ever had. I had taken his summer course and talked with him at the beginning about getting some make up work but on the last week of class he said he never made an agreement with me even though I had a school's witness. The guy is an idiot and doesn't know how to teach and should be removed.

Endless amounts of knowlege off the top of his head! He is a walking refrence guide to any musically related topic.. He trains real musicians on there way to being professionals in a very competitve field. If you're not a serious musician, you won't appreciate him...get ready to be an expert!

Quirky and eccentric, but lovable. He's a picky grader and perhaps a bit of a perfectionist on writing assignments, but just humor him. Show up to class, do your work, show interest in the subject, be respectful, and he'll love you. My one complaint was that he expected us to be punctual, yet he did not respect our time by letting us out on time.

He is one EXTREMELY boring teacher. Sure, he knows his stuff well and all, but he fails to pass that information effectively. I had such a hard time trying to stay awake in his class... To top it off he obviously gets off by being authoritative and unnecessarily bossy, which got on my nerve more than anything. DO AVOID this teacher at all cost. It will make your life MUCH easier.

He sucks. Highly unorganized. After assigning sh**loads of work, he just loses it and never grades it. If he ever does look at it, he'll give sh**loads more work in "fixing" it. Also is an unfair grader, and assumes all students lack competence.

You will learn a lot about world music in this class, but you will have to work EXTREMELY hard. This IS NOT an easy class. His study guides are a bit vague. Even the "A" students in the class get a "B". Be prepared to study hours and hours. It's a good course to learn about world music, but the class won't help your GPA if that's what you want.

I personally love music of mexico. However, this teacher made me not like it while taking his class. He gave work as if we were music majors. If you appreciate music of mexico and want to continue to like it, do not take this class. It is too much busy work and very unorganized!!
