I would trust this man with my life. After taking my entire course load with him and one other professor I can say that it has been the best semester at Duke so far. I also made him my major advisor since he was so willing to help when my original advisor wasn't. Taking classes with him will be a top highlight of my time at Duke.

By far the best Political Science Professor at Duke. Great to have him for any class. Has a very true opinion of race issues facing all minority groups in America. Can't praise the man enough!!!

I found him to not have a compassionate bone in his body. Lectures were all over the place, he didn't reply to very important e-mails, I felt like he had no concern for my questions and never tried to help me succeed. Honestly one of the worst professors I've had at Duke. Not worth taking a course with him even if the material isn't too hard

Really interesting class!! He really knows what he's teaching, so it was easier to learn. His tests are directly taken from his lectures. If you taken notes in class and go over them you'll do great in his class. He's very understanding too.

Really clear lectures, you can tell he's reading off an outline. Pretty interesting too, even though every once and a while he goes off on a useless tangent. Tests are really really easy and straight from the lecture, but the grading is strange, so you'll walk out thinking you got a 100% when you actually got a B.

He and the TAs grade all of his tests off of a rubric, which means that it's very easy to miss a few key words and fail. Not very reasonable on the whole. His class is on the American Political System, but too often it seems like he's talking more about the history and methods of racism in government. Avoid.

Multiple choice questions are ridiculously easy. Free response questions are straight from lecture notes. Easy class but didn't learn much I didn't already learn from HS Gov. Haynie's a real nice guy though and is very approachable.
