Don't let engineers who got bogged down in Chem 1 get you scared. He's fantastic. I took (Chem) Thermodynamics from him, as well as Chem 1 Lab. He really cares about making students learn. He doesn't make you feel stupid if you don't know it. Beware of his tendency to get sidetracked on interesting stories. He's got great stories though...

Great guy. Has hours outside of class that he's available in the Student Success Center (and office hours I think). Very approachable and doesn't make you feel stupid for not knowing something. During labs when you need help he would try to make you figure it out yourself instead of just telling you, which encouraged understanding of concepts.

Too dependent on technology. One does not need a powerpoint to learn chemistry concepts. Anyone can read on their own. Poor teacher. Teaching from powerpoint is not teaching.

Comment:
Most lectures 10-15 minutes were spent trying to get the technology to work, which was bad for both online, and in-class students. His examples are good, but the way he doesn't do a good job of explaining concepts. The power points and recitation notes are a great way to study. Don't wait until the last minute to do the homework assignments.

I really liked Dr. Woelk and he seemed like he always had time for his students. Most other colleges the students would work with the TAs alone, but with Woelk and Satterfield, they both took time to be at LEAD and help students work problems one on one, and I thought that was really special.

Great Teacher. He helps you whenever you need it. I was lucky to have him for Chem 1 Lecture and Lab. He is very personable and will help you individually. He won't just give you the answers, he helps you figure it out yourself. He also has a great sense of humor. If you take Chemistry I definitely recommend getting to know Dr. Woelk for help.

He's a great person, very helpful as well. And he definitely knows his chemistry. Guy is a genius. BUT, he doesn't necessarily know how to teach. Very vague sometimes. Class is filled with humor. Don't be afraid to take his class though because there is PLENTY of outside of class help

fun class, but i didn't learn much from class notes. If you need help, go to travis mcdowell if he is still a recitation teacher. I got an A in the class thanks to travis's help.

He knows his stuff. When he teaches, he teaches well. The problem is that the first 10 minutes were taken up with text messaging and jokes instead of material. Chem1 is a difficult class and I could have used all the class time to learn material. Sit with a group of students you know for clicker questions.

I haven taken chem two years prior to this class. I have a C- and am struggling to pass. This class is downright hard, but it would be easier if the teacher would try to help the students learn instead of messing around with text comments and funny chemistry jokes. I enrolled to get a degree not learn jokes.

Professor Woelk is the best college Professor that I have. He cares about the success of each student, gives the tools and guidelines they need to succeed without giving them so much that they are incapable of doing the work on their own. He's teaching methods and classroom involvement are quite revolutionary.

Dr. Woelk is a pretty good teacher. He really wants his students to be successful and will try anything to make that work. It is a bigger class and he allows you to text questions that he will address the next lecture. But, he spends way too much time discussing stupid questions people text. Class is tough but he is one of the better teachers.

Not a horrible teacher, hate the class with a passion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a big problem with emailing him and asking for help and not getting any help what so ever. I also have a problem with the substitute TA teacher that subs for him. Feel as if I would learn more with my eyes shut.

Lectures cover only about 70% of the material on exams. The rest must be learned through doing the notes assignments for the class. Competent, but doesn't understand why students don't understand some of the more complex aspects of chemistry. Funny stories in class. Doesn't answer email. Ever.

I still like this professor even though it has been sometime since I have had his class. He really cares about his students and will do as much as possible for them. Great professor, one of the if not the best that I have ever had. He even gives extra credit if you find mistakes on tests and report it to him. He really cares about what he does.

He is a good professor. Class sizes are big, so you don't get much one on one time if at all. A lot of homework, quizzes every week, reading notes, 5 exams, clicker points. It's easy to get points, but it's also easy to get behind. Don't get behind.
