Probably the worst professor I've had in my time at VIU. Strongly disliked her group based learning strategies and teaching methods, absolutely did not work for me. Lots of readings and homework too. Content of the course was boring and she did not try to make it interesting at all. Also cancels class a LOT.

She is terrible. her lectures are focused on tiny concepts. she doesn't keep up with the material. doesn't show up to class sometimes with no warning. tests on things she says won't be on a test . "team based learning" so she basically does nothing regarding lectures. she is condescending and rude, which is bad because its a discussion based class

Comment:

One of the worst most miserable profs I've had in the 5 years I've been at this school. As everyone else has stated: if you have a different opinion than hers she will vilify you in class. If you show that you have an understanding of material that she is trying to teach you she will take it as an offence. TERRIBLE PROF AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Avoid her at all costs. I'm not kidding. If there are ANY other professors to take the required class for your degree, take it with someone else. You'll have to write at a masters level to get a decent grade in her class, and be prepared for her anal retentive critiques of your work. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Linda was an incredibly frustrating and difficult professor. While I have no issues with her need to make concession due to her mobility issues, I found her hard to reach, hard to communicate with, and I felt she didn't teach me a thing.

I took Linda's 100 level course, and didn't really enjoy it. HOWEVER I now realize I was way too quick to judge as she was just back from being bed ridden for 2 years. I thought Linda was super biased but in reality she is knowledgeable in her field. I look forward to taking a class with her again! I highly recommend her 209 class on inequality!

Linda is extremely biased in her beliefs, and if you're not an extreme feminist and you express your views then you will get put down in front of the entire class. She told our class every day how SHE has a phd in sociology. I didn't enjoy her closed-mindedness to any varying opinions from her own, however her tests weren't too bad.

She is a little wierd at times and gets side tracked alot. I took a 3 hour class and it was way too long take the short classes! She nice for the most part and I think she does care about her students. She is very passionate about the subjects and doesn't really listen to your opinion. She will tell you that you are WRONG!

She is not entirely open to different viewpoints during class dicussions and is not always objective in her teaching. She is occassionaly unfair to students, though the class I took with her was quite easy and fairly well taught

Not really a fun course so that didn't work in her favour. She seems to truely give her students every opportunity to achieve high marks; however, she seems slightly childish at times and used class time for her own personal interest (air quality in room) Tests were challenging and assignments were reasonable. Won't take her classes in future.

Linda is an amazing person. She means well and has alot of knowledge. She cares alot about her students and if you are willing to learn she is willing to teach well. There are alot of fun things in her class and it is an easy mark if you just show up and smile. She can be biased but so can everyone. If you want a good mark, take her class :)

Comment:

Nice teacher, good class discussions. Watched movies which added to the classes. Has cancelled class 3 times so far, but we've stayed well on time. One midterm, group presentations. Read and study the textbook, make sure to understand concepts, and you'll do fine.
