Comment:
Bio100 is more of an elective class to take as a freshman. The class consists mostly of other students coming in and talking, not him. There are clicker questions to answer. If you are not there, then you don't get credit for coming to class. It's one day per week for one hour... you would be stupid if you failed this class.

He teaches well and uses good examples. He is understanding but can sometimes be boring. Never really used the books, just take very good notes, clicker questions, and quizzes to study for exams. He also has group interaction.

Pretty straightforward class. Attendance was taken by clicker and there were very few assignments. Could be boring at times.

This class was pretty easy, Schug doesn't make you do much as long as you get the lab done. He is pretty boring and honestly doesn't teach much of anything. He is very passionate about biology, but I don't think he really cares what you do in his class.

This class was easy for me because most of the material covered in this class I learned in my high school bio class. Stay on top of due dates, study hard and you'll be fine.

I enjoyed this class even though I am not a Biology major. Each week you have two quizzes and others you will have a case study and unit exam. The weekly quizzes are pretty straightforward and the case study's are pretty simple as long as you read. His unit exams are extremely hard and are nothing like the practice ones. Overall he good professor.

His lectures are long and mostly he reads the powerpoint. There weren't too many exams but you do have online hw and quizzes. I got C's on exams and F on final, but I got a B final grade because I did the online work on time and fairly well (which you can easily google sometimes for answers). Do the online work! It's a lifesaver!

I was so confident in this class but my confidence left after the first test. The assigned readings are a lot but I was making it work. I went into the exam with a 90. I took the practice exam which was 195 questions long and got an A. So I felt like I knew my stuff. Took the unit exam and got a C. He makes the tests much harder than practice exams

Not an effective teacher. He becomes easily confused in class and has a lot of trouble explaining things to students with questions. I stopped paying attention in class after the first test and still got a B. Do the homework and quizzes and this class will be no problem.

This guy obviously knows a complex amount of genetics material, but is absolutely horrible at communicating the information to students. He is slow and disorganized in lecture and has a very hard time properly answering questions or clarifying anything. The entire course grade is based on exams and a few online homeworks.

The class was half online and half in class, if you showed up then you'll pass (literally). He only really spoke or taught the first day of class, other than that we had guest speakers everyday. He was very kind and approachable.

This class was a breeze-which is good because its mandatory for biology majors. Attendance is 60% of your grade-and in my case, it was an 8 am.. so that was no fun! However, the assignments are online and you get multiple tries. Basically, if you go to class and do your work, you will make an A.

Online course was very interesting and helpful, I learned a lot. We were well prepared for every test and I would recommend it as an online course for anyone who may be considering biology.

Dr. Schug often doesn't cover everything that will be on exams during his lectures, but he is approachable if you need more explanations. Honestly, if you read/study the chapters and the slides he posts online you should do well on exams. I stopped coming to class a month in and still pulled an A, but you have to study! It's not a pushover course.

Dr. Schug is a wonderful person - very thoughtout toward his students; he is a bit unorganized, but in all fairness, we had several snow days that threw off the schedule. The material is hard and you really have to study, but the tests were very similar to the online homework which was 40% of the grade. Do Hw, do well in class.

I took this class online. He is very straightforward in his expectations and the class isn't bad at all if you actually stay on top of things. It is pretty time consuming... not too hard but you definitely work for your grade.

He told us the first day that he would not be a "teacher", but rather a "coach"...he said he would direct us to the material we needed to know. I pay WAY too much in tuition to have to sit through a lecture where the professor can't even answer questions. This might as well be an online course. He is terrible.

I could have not come to class, read the book and done prep-u and still would have gotten an A. He doesn't have any control over his class and they constantly talk when he's talking. Overall he's a nice guy and if you're self-sufficient at all you can take his class and still get a good grade, just read the book and do prep-u.

I thought the class would be easy and he seemed nice at first. My main issue with him is the fact that he does not explain things completely and goes through some sections much faster than others.
