He is a very intriguing man,you never really know what is going on in his mind. As others have stated, he makes history kinda fun; I left knowing something about history and did not dread going to class. The papers he assigns are the typical history paper, you really have to get artistic, think out of the box. Take him!!!

Great professor! Highly recommend! His lectures are very entertaining and you actually feel like you've learned something. There are 3 papers, very fun to write. Participate in class. Don't buy the textbooks at bookstore get at half.com so cheap! Pay attention in class, follow instructions and you will definitely get an A in the class:) Take him!

I really enjoyed Professor Cotter's American History class. I had to take the class as a LAST requirement, but it turned out to be one of the most fun classes I've ever taken. He clearly loves the subject, and teaches it in an informative, entertaining way. He grades fairly. Highly recommended.

His class was so much fun. Since this class was writing intensive, it seemed daunting but he made the assignments fun and interesting. Show up, take notes, read the texts, and follow his instructions on the assignments and you can't fail.

I recommend this class very highly. Cotter is the kind of professor who isn't traditional in his teachings and because of that, you actually learn history in his class. He is a very fair person and as long as you attend his class you should be fine. He is a very entertaining lecturer so I can't see why you would want to miss it.

i actually found his class very enlighting. he makes histry interesting and i enjoyed going to class. he's a fair grader and if you take notes in class and show up his essays are easy. he gives 3-4 essays and there actually fun. hes a bit unorganized but is understanding of students. overall great proffesor.

All you have to do for this class is show up, take notes, and actually FOLLOW his instructions on writing assignments. A lot of people in my class were getting low grades on papers because they didn't do the assignments right. I managed to get A's, so obviously it's not that hard. You shouldn't be in college if you can't write a decent paper.

Cotter teaches boring history you've been learning since 4th grade in an interesting light. People complain about his papers, but they are actually pretty general and straight forward. Students just can't understand how to write with proper grammar and to NOT summarize!! Recommended if you're a decent writer.

knows what he's talking about but not fun at all, tries to joke. feel as though i've been learning the same thing for over a month. papers are ridiculous, barely any explanations on what to do but expects you to comprehend it perfectly. i liked it very much in the beginning, that changed halfway. disappointing.
