Comment:
Extremely tough class but Dr. Sublett is willing to help you ever step of the way. If you visit him in his office hours he will break down everything for you and offer advice. His teaching methods are slightly unorthodox but they work. Take the advantage of having such a dedicated and intelligent professor.

People give him a bad rep because he does things differently than most professors. His teaching methods really get his students to work hard. He truly wants his students to learn and do as best as they can but he wants them to work hard as well. I received an A in two of his classes. Even though it was hard work, it is very accomplishable.

Everyone is right about Dr. Sublett being old-fashioned, however, his expectations are not beyond what they should be. Set yourself up for success and the rest will be easy. It's been 11 years since I took Dr. Sublett's Seminar in Geo course. He is STILL one of my biggest backers in life. He wants you to do well. Show the interest. Period.

Professor Sublett is an old school professor, so expect an old school type of educational experience. He expects you to be prompt and attend class regularly, but rewards you for doing so. He is an extremely tough grader when it comes to essays, but he helps you along the way. Practice your writing skills and know MLA. Overall, he is a fair prof.

Comment:
He is not difficult. Follow directions and you get an A or B, depending on how well you write your papers. To the rater who lost 12 points out of 100 for having a straight staple vs. the required 45 degree angle, Sublett may be anal for doing that. But, he is very clear about the rules. If you are too stupid, lazy, & stubborn to comply, your loss.

He is very strict and militant. Must attend EVERY class, too controlling and treats you like a child. He makes you feel stupid in class, he expects you to participate but then degrades you if you get it wrong... or if it is not what he thinks. Takes points off for wrong formats on essays, sweats the small stuff. No personality. Horrible.

Very clear. Must attend class, although given one personal day. No tests. 3 relatively easy papers and one 20-page (including maps, graphs, and photos). He's really nice and helpful, a friend to the end as other reviewers have said. He's a bit old fashioned, but has good advice and is always available when you need something or want to talk.

I have had Sublett for 3 classes: Illinois, Doing Geography, and Seminar. I absolutely hated how strict he was with his papers and hated Doing Geography. By Seminar I realized that its useless hating him because you HAVE to have him. After just doing what he says it wasn't as bad. Just make sure you go to class every day!

Had Sublett twice and although I regret having to take his classes I got A's with minimal effort. I missed the max amount of days in both classes but did all the assignments according to his specs. His rules may seem ludicrous but your the student and he's the professor so deal with it and get your A.

Again, easy class. Make sure to attend. 500 total points: 100 from card activities, 50 from attendance/participation, 40 from peer response, and 310 from writing activities/essays. A lot of writing in this class. If writing is not your thing, then this class may not be for you.

Geography of Illinois. Make sure to attend class. Easy to get an A. 375 total points: 150 from two exams, 100 from card activities, 200 from writing a logbook (geography journal). Writing the logbook sometimes is difficult so if you don't like writing, you might have trouble. All notes can be used on the tests and for any graded material.

All the people that say he's hard are right, but he's supposed to be! He tries to test your limits and he's incredibly helpful when you need it. And yea, it's not an English class, but he helped me improve my writing so much. Overall, he was one of my favorite teachers.

This teacher was completely anal. He took off for pointless stuff on assignments. He treated the class as if it was an english course instead of a geography course. He needs to retire.....pointless class.....I hated every second of it. Beware of this ****!

Dr. Sublett's Seminar in Geography class is not as bad as everyone seems to think it is. If you doo all of the work (there's LOTS of it, show him that you are taking initiative, and participate, you will do fine. I got an A fairly easily.

This guy would be perfect for teaching 4th graders. He talks to us like we're children (inflection in his voice), dictates everything, tells us what order to have our binders' papers in, explains how to read newspapers, put periods at end of sentences, completely useless stuff. I'm not dropping him bc I need the class, but he is INSULTING.

Sublett is a different kind of teacher...there is no doubt about that. But if you follow instructions to the letter (no matter what other teachers have told you in the past) you will do fine in the class. As he will tell you the first day of class, he runs the course like a business, be on time, do things the way he says. Overall he is ok.
