People liked to whine about him more than he deserved. I rarely went to lecture and ended with an A. He sets up grades so that it's hard to fail. If you pay attention in lab and read occasionally, it won't matter if you can't understand his accent, though its not too difficult to understand if you try. Overall, very knowledgable and easy to pass.

Dr. Xiao is a very intelligent professor, but in large classes it is a bit difficult for him to convey his thoughts to the class. His accent takes a bit to adjust to, and he speaks at a fast rate. He is a well-meaning man with a dedication to his students, so he is not a must avoid professor, I just found the situation less than ideal.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Min Xiao was by far the worst professor I have ever had. Despite the fact that his lectures are pointless and his accent is very hard to understand, the guy couldn't care less about how you do in the course. I finished half a point away from an A and he wouldn't even entertain the idea of helping me out.

Smart man. Can't teach UPII. No capacity to simplify concepts for clarity. There's a certain skill of being able to explain things to a 5 year old. Doesn't have this skill. Thick accent, combined with fast pace speaking, results in almost unanimous inability for students to comprehend. Kind and passionate, but wrong for UPII. Avoid at all costs.

It's hard to understand what he talks during class. Highly recommend you to do the MC & OR HW numerical times and understand the concepts. I think the lecture is useless.

UPII with this professor is awful. Have an extremely hard time understanding him, and the only reason he teaches is so he can do research. He is a smart guy but not a very good teacher. Avoid taking if you can.

Avoid taking this professor for UPII. I don't know a single person who actually learns anything from lecture. It's extremely difficult to understand what he's saying, and nearly impossible to understand the concepts he is trying to teach. Usually less than half of the class gets the clicker questions correct. Lab is basically the only way to learn.

He has a very strong accent so that it is very difficult to understand what he is saying, let alone understand the material he is teaching. He also teaches many things that aren't actually needed for the class and usually teaches upper level physics so he can't teach to Physics 2 level. The main source of learning were lectures from prior semesters

Prof. Xiao has a very thick Chinese accent, making it very difficult to understand him. You're required to be in Calc 2 for this course, but Xiao often times uses Calc 3 and Dif EQ concepts to solve equations in lecture. He also does not answer questions in lecture, making it extremely hard to get clarification of difficult concepts.

Two OR and 3MC homeworks per week. Mandatory attendance. VERY difficult to understand, especially when he starts talking fast. Wouldn't be nearly as hard if he could effectively teach the material. Sometimes +80% of the class will fail the in class quizzes. Out of three years at the UoA, this is objectively the worst lecture I've ever had.

Dr. Xiao was a great teacher. The accent became easier to understand after the first week, and he was really enthusiastic about the material. Tests were multiple choice, which wasn't easy, but there was a make-up exam. I would definitely take him again.
