Comment:
I took Gen Chem with professor Schlotter and he lectured on physics instead of general chemistry. I got a test back and as we were reviewing the answers I noticed that I got a question right he marked as wrong. He would not give me the points back because his key was wrong.

Comment:
Dr. Schlotter is a very quotable man, if nothing else because he has a lot to say. His grading scale was 10 points lower than the normal scale: he knows Chem is just hard. Some people don't want to put the work in, and get bad grades. I'm not a science major, but I did better than most majors. He's a good guy, but nobody gives him a chance.

Will never take another class from him again. He lectures as if students already know all the material whether they've taken a chemistry course before or not. He doesn't explain how to do things very well and when he does he seems to have around about way of doing it causing students to constantly ask questions. Decent in labs, but avoid if able.

He is a tough professor but wants his students to participate and succeed. Wants students to ask for help. You will have to do the work in this class if you want to get a good grade.

Comment:
I only had Schlotter for lab, but I deliberately changed lab professors after first semester because of him. He is neither good at explaining things nor kind. Half the time, he wasn't in the lab and we couldn't find him to ask questions, and other times he would make fun of students.

In my opinion, Schlotter was one of my favorite professors so far. He takes time to go over the material, and if you do not understand something, just ask and he is more than happy to explain it. Doing the problem sets is key--if you don't do the work, don't expect to do well in the class, you at least have to try.

I read all the comments about him before signing up; was more than nervous. However, after two exams a couple of things stand out: 1, if you do the problem sets and understand them, you will get a solid grade; 2, if you do not understand how to do the problems, and ASK HIM, he will move aside everything to help. I like this professor.

His course is difficult but so is every other Chem course here at Hamline. I found that if you take the time to talk to him one on one he is helpful and wants to help you.

Well hes a tough one to explain. I liked him, but hes one that YOU have to ask for help and REALLY listen to the answer because he is sometimes not too clear. Sometimes he will flat out laugh at your question but is still willing to help I guess. All I can say is get on his good side and he'll favor you :) But I like him and hes a good professor.

He can have a hard time communicating his knowledge of the subject to the students. He is passionate about chemistry however, and is more than willing to help students.

Good teacher if you have taken Chem before and like very concrete-sequential. Doesn't explain book at all, assumes you already understand everything. Only goes over problem sets, not good at all for people who might struggle with chem. Gives help only if you ask for it, otherwise assumes you know it

He is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had.Even tho it is a large lecture class he still cares about the individual student. When students in his class are having trouble he will even call you personally to set up a meeting time or something for additional help.Ask a lot of questions,it helps

He talks above your head assuming you know chemistry even though it's only a general course. When you ask him to go over something again because you don't understand it, he laughs and says "it's so easy, how can't you understand it."

Horrible Lectures, very hard to sit through. Rushes through overheads and doesn't explain what he's talking about. Heavy amount of quizes, fairly difficult tests. Offers help outside of class when needed but overall I would not recommend this teacher
