I'm someone who can't sit there and focus on one thing, and I'd get there right as class started and have to choose a back row seat, so as the semester was ending he'd literally walk to the back row and watch what I was doing. Creepy! He patronized me because I wasn't good at math, and he's really boring. Plus he wrote all the labs himself.

He is a good teacher, but is probably the toughest grader in all of Wright State history. Even if you know what you're doing in the problem and show a lot of work, but don't end up with the correct answer, you receive virtually 0 credit for that problem. Very hard to succeed with this type of grading.

Had to drop, I tested into calc as a freshman and figured id take him cause his name made him seem like there wouldnt be an accent. Mathematica is techy and didficult. All he does in class is write on the board horrible at explaining things and never turns to face the class. Hes smart but a bad teacher. Take holm if you have the option or otto.

Dr. Mercer is overall a great professor. He explains all of the material with great detail and is very easy to understand. This class by no means is easy. He will push you to figure it out and not just give you the answer. I would definitely take another class of his.

WSU Math has a bad rep; try your best, go to office hours like I did for Calc II, and study your butts off till comprehension. Its possible to passdo good. Dr. Mercer gives tough homework, some tricky exams, and a project in the end; but as as you work hard, you'll be fine.

Not helpful at all, simply gives solutions to problems in class not the full path in achieving. Actually admitted in class he gets off on making trick questions for the exams. Grading scale of averages was an inverse bell curve (those that already knew calc2 A, then the rest F). DO NOT TAKE NO MERCY MERCER unless you can pass without the class...

He does not explain the way of solving problems clearly, so you have to teach your self most of the time. He also gives long exams!

For an entry level course, I literally taught myself everything and I've never had calculus before. He was too worried about showing us mathematica to actually teach and there were topics on the common final we hadn't even covered. He was awful and I stuck it out with the hope of a B. I recommend avoiding, I'm dropping my calc 2 with him right now

I have a background in calculus before this class. Without that prior knowledge I don't think I would be able to pass. He doesn't explain anything he needs to but will essentially explain how 2+2=4 for over the entire class. When I asked for help he was useless he never answered my questions, he just repeats the information i told him.

I think Richard Mercer is a fantastic professor. I've been in his class for almost two weeks now, and I enjoy it. He teaches at a reasonable pace, and will help you understand the problem, but not do it for you. His methods are traditional and High school like, which is a great feature. I without a doubt recommend him.

Dr. Mercer is a good professor. He cares about his students. His homework is super hard, but it prepared me for the exams and the common final. He does use a grader for grading the homework and she was extremely tough, but he graded his own exams in a fair way. Labs are required, but they are the worst part of this class, but I got the hang of it.

Tough grader, more inclined to take off points than to give partial credit. Assigns a lot of homework every week, regardless. Lectures largely consist of him playing with Mathematica and talking into the computer. Tests are straightforward, but can difficult to study for when you always have 3 sections of homework on new material due the same week.

I love Professor Mercer!I took Calc 2 & 3 with him on quarters and found him to be a wonderful teacher. He wrote on the board a lot, which helped me take good notes. When asked about the HW, he would try to help you figure it out, without doing it for you. I wish I could have taken him for calc 4. Would definitely take him again!

He was sooooooooo Hard like u have no idea! I f dropped his class and he always uses that mathmatica stupid program to explain everything and not for the heck of tech but because he made the program and he wants everyone to use it! I got an A in all my calc classes with 100% for some of them! DO. NOT. TAKE. HIM!

While his class was semi-difficult, I found that if one does all the homework assigned, they will be fine for the class.

Terrible professor. He doesn't believe in partial credit and usually homework will help boost your grade in a normal class but no not in here. I am never taking one of his classes again.

Dr. Mercer doesn't explain any material what-so-ever. He uses a program called Mathematica to such a degree that, that is his explanation to every concept: plug a command in Mathematica and you get an answer; there is little to no "under the hood" explanation. Nice guy, rotten professor.

Great professor. Explaines key points and concepts great. Belives in technology to assist you in your problems. When I did poorly on exams I felt bad, like I let the professor down. Wish he were teaching Calc. III next quarter. Take this Professor!!!
