Agreed, he's great if you actually participate, and he's a fun guy to get to know. His classes are pretty eye-opening, and he definitely knows his stuff. Fairly lax on paper grading too.

Sayres Rudy taught one of the most interesting and informative classes in my life. Very understanding and open if you actually do work and talk in class. YOU MUST READ AND WRITE/TALK. Still, my favorite class at Amherst so far.

Yeah, Rudy was pretty good, except he let some students go apesh!t with the discussions. If he'd just kept it under control in that department, and sorted through the readings to get the most important stuff, it would've been a great class.

An entertaining genius who knows about everything in the Middle East. Unfortunately, for a supposed introductory class, he assumed we had more background than we did. The readings became insane. Discussions started out well and digressed.
