Professor Shi is the best chinese teacher. Took her for 101 & 102 and got an A both times. She gives study guides for each test which is very helpful. Shes a nice/easy grader as well. HW is due the day of the tests. She takes attendance everyday so make sure to come. For 101 there is 1 presentation & for 102 there is 2 presentations, 1 min each.

She is really nice and lovely! I have taken both my Chinese 101 & 102 with her and planning to take 201 with her again. She is not a tough grader and homework is not too much given that it's a 5 unit class. Her lectures are not boring and she sparkles a lot of interest in you for Chinese. Her accent is comprehensible and she's very experienced.

Seriously one of the most upbeat, engaging, conscientious teachers I've ever had. Her positive attitude is infectious, and you can't help but be interested in what she has to say . Is very straight forward in what you need to learn. Everything that will be on the test is on the study guide, excluding cultural questions that she discusses in class.

Professor Shannon Shi's CHINESE 101 class has to be the easiest course I have ever taken. I didn't study that much but I still managed to get anywhere from a high B to an A+ on her tests. They're so easy. She is an amazing teacher, and is always open to help you out on anything you need! I would definitely take this class again if I had time and $.

Professor Shi is very, very good. In all of her classes, from CHIN101 to CHIN201, she gives a study guide that details what will be on the exam. You need to show up to class to make sure you get the cultural information that might be asked on the exam. My only issue with her is that she leaves a lot until the last few weeks, otherwise GREAT!

Homework is assigned at the end of one chapter and due on exam day. Gives you study guide that details exactly what is on the exam. She is very funny and extremely helpful. You will have two oral presentations, the last one being 1 minute long at the end of the semester. Easy A if you study, but show up to class bc she gives questions based on lect

If you are serious about learning Mandarin then you will love this class. Before beginning this course, I was excited yet afraid that it would be difficult to learn a complex language like Mandarin, but Prof. Shi helped make it just as simple as learning any other language. Taking this class will make you want to take the next level and so on

I took Professor Shi's CHIN101 class, and it was very educational and FUN. YOU SHOULD ONLY TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE WILLING TO STUDY AND PRACTICE. Her grading is very clear, and she will tell you what you need to know for the tests and presentations (don't be intimidated, they're actually kind of fun). If you want to learn Chinese, TAKE PROF SHI!

Great teacher, but remember, this is a language class, and if you took Chinese 1 else where, it might be difficult to accept a new teaching style on the same subject as well as tests and homework given. I feel she is very conservative as well and a bit judgmental. Tests can be hard, especially if you don't study your characters for hours. Good Luck

If you are looking for a way to transfer to SDSU, professor shi is the deal. She taught the course material in a way that is very easy to understand. The thing is, if you can pass all of professor shi's chinese exams @ Mesa, chances are, you will pass all your chinese exams @ SDSU!

??? (Professor Shi) is AMAZING. At first, I was scared and intimated taking choosing Mandarin but Professor Shi is approachable, helpful, and SO sweet. The best part, there are no surprises on her tests. Her study guides mirror the tests. You MUST put in the time and effort (as with learning any language) and you will get easy A!! Take her!

After taking chinese 202 with her, i realized that i have learned more chinese than i should have known at this level. The problem is, we don't have the chance or the opportunity to practice and writes in chinese very often. All the vocabulary we know, all the chinese characters we've learned, they all contributed to how well we speak the language.

Cantonese is a self-taught language. Nobody teach it, they learned it by themselves. You have to go to school to learn Mandarin Chinese. That is the difference between an educated man and an uneducated woman.
