Comment:
I don't necessarily see everybody's issue with Bertonneau in 102. He never has class, it's normally just consultation. He's a good person, and when there is class, it's only for like 10 minutes top. The only thing you have to do for this class is to write 3 essays throughout the semester. It's not difficult, stop complaining. It's an easy A.

He might be intimidating in the beginning but he's really nice that wants you to improve your writing. Attendance is not mandatory. He tries to get to know the students in his class. 3 papers. There's a list of topics that you can choose from. Don't use your phone in class. He gets annoyed. Make sure to come to his consultations, it does helps!

This professor will work you up to an A as long as you show up and make the corrections to the papers. We had 3 papers- 25%, 25%, 50%. There are consultations where he makes suggestions to make your papers better. NO PHONES ALLOWED IN CLASS or he bugs out. Knows his stuff. Really good guy

Never tells you your grade until the end of the semester. Gave everyone a c+ at midterms regardless of what you actually deserved and when asked about it said that the grades were "bureaucratic artifices". If you're looking to take a class with a pretentious, hard to follow, sexist man, this professor is for you!

Dr. Tom was amazing! Very lecture-based class which may throw an English student off but there is nothing I could say in a discussion that could benefit this class compared to what he was saying. Very knowledgeable and if you get around some awkward mannerisms he is one of the nicest and greatest professors you will ever get the chance to learn fro

Bertanneau is a horrible prof. He has repeatedly belittled students in front of everyone, even if their answers are only a little off from what he's looking for. Very picky on assignments as well. Not an enjoyable experience AT ALL.

Ended class after 10 minutes tops each class day. He gave a lot of quizzes in the beginning of the semester with fairly difficult questions based on some book. Be prepared to have him call you out. He assigns four essay's but gives you over 200 topics to choose from, but he is an extremely harsh grader.

He is extremely rude and condensending. Doesn't bother to learn your names and if you get something wrong or don't understand you are ridiculed. You are also get put on the spot and you DO NOT have an opinion. He is extremely tough and by far the worst teacher you can ever have. This is more of a language class than English. Stay clear of him!

He seems like a nice guy but he cannot teach and it was possible to retain any of the material he "taught". His syllabus was confusing and his assignments aren't clear enough to understand. I tried to hang in there for as long as I could but I eventually withdrew from his class. I don't recommend him.

Professor Bertonneau was a very intelligent person. He is very knowledgeable and versed in the history of the English language as well as it's application. If you are an English major that wants to actually learn more, take him. If you just want an easy class with an easy A, stay clear.

Dr. Bertonneau is a great guy but could use a little more clarification. It is a TON of reading! There is two papers 5-10 pages long and 4 tests ("midterms"). I ended up with a higher grade then expected so PARTICIPATE!!! Overall i learned a lot for a GEN ED class!

I' an English major and this is supposed to be an English class. Its not. It is basically a philosophy class with history mixed in. If you have the choice of another professor for this course, choose them. This is the worst professor I have ever had.

I decided to take a chance on Dr. Bertonneau and boy was that one of the best choices I made. Sure he's pompous, random and complex at times. But he's not impossible. He challenges you as a writer to master your craft and he'll help you get there. Class is simpler than you think, ask the right questions and you'll get the right answers.

I took him last semester and no, he was not an easy teacher, but i think people on here are being harsh. He doesn't give pop quizzes often, in fact he'll warn you the class before that there "may" be a quiz. He's very smart and has a sense of humor. Its college people, you just need to do the work and pay attention and youll have no problem.

Professor Bertonneau is a great lecturer, and he will blow your mind with how much he knows about pretty much everything. His courses aren't difficult (I've taken them all) as long as you do the reading and contribute to class. I shouldn't have to say that as he's an English professor with mostly upper division courses, but apparently I do.

He's a very smart guy he just cannot teach. I would not suggest taking this course with him. His rubrics for essays are super confusing and he is unclear as to what he wants from you. He also calls you out in class and mocks you if you are wrong.
