Tom might be my best teacher ever. It's really a shame I don't enjoy math all that much. Tom makes me wish I was a math major. Additionally, he cares so much about his students and is always there to help.

Tom is an amazing professor as well as a great guy. He is so on top of what is happening in class and always wants to help you out in whatever way he can. He really wants his students to succeed and puts a lot of effort into making thorough lectures.

Tom is one of my favorite professors. Incredible intelligent, very effective as a prof, and extremely accessible. I've gone to him with doubts of my ability to perform in the class and he worked with me to so I could improve. He genuinely cares about math and his students.

Tom gets excited by calculus, v. important when you're teaching a class section that's to capacity with 35 people. He effectively gets the word out on his office hours, always available for questions. He extensively outlines what will be on the exams, very helpful as far as preparing us for them. Has worn an earring before which is genuinely cool.

Tom is wonderful! Funny without trying to be and a nice guy. I'm not a math person, but he was so likable I almost considered taking Applied Multivariable Calculus 3! Let's just say that's a lot coming from me. If you take this class - take it with Tom! He wants you to understand and succeed! You get what you put into the class for sure.

Tom is a great guy. He is super nice and always willing to go out of his way to help you. That being said, Tom is also a very tough grader. I never learned much in class and had to teach myself most of the material. You can get away with skipping every class and still get a decent grade.

Best math teacher I've ever had! He's clear, concise and helpful. If you're not great at math, he is willing to help you. That said, utilize the tas and the MAC center. Homework can save your grade. You will learn a lot, and, most importantly, how to think through a math problem - not just learn a formula. Highly recommend!

He is an amazing professor! super helpful and his notes are very clear. If you're thinking of taking CALC II, you should definitely join his class. His Mathematica notebooks are also very clear and very helpful.

I really appreciate Tom. Exposition is lucid and engaging. Recognizes importance of student exploration. Workload is relatively light despite that students learn as much as in harder classes. Tom is a genuine guy with a big heart, and I love seeing him out of class. That motivates me to learn in his classes and excites me about the field of math.

Comment:

Halverson is an excellent teacher willing to help all the time. Loves to use R but everyone in the math department does. Weekly problem sets are a pain but keep you on top of the subject matter. Very approachable and overall a pretty excellent teacher.

Amazing professor! I'm not a big math person, but learned a lot and was challenged just the right amount in his class. Very clear presentation of lectures and approachable when you need help outside of class. Also a really nice guy (and very enthusiastic about the subject matter)

My favorite math teacher so far! Tom's really organized and presents everything in a really logical, organized manner. He's really good at explaining things and is very approachable. Tests are easy if you do the homework and go to class.
