Comment:

Maxwell is a easy going & a good professor. PowerPoint Lectures are based on the book, but not all info is covered, but its still enough to do well on exams with only studying PowerPoints. 2-3 class group discussions. 2 exams (Study guides given for both) & a research paper. Used book for a few topics not covered in lectures for exams. Take her!

Comment:

Maxwell has pretty dry lectures. They sometimes seem a little mundane. However, she has so much experience in the Social Work field and provides great insight and inspiration to her students. Make sure you take good notes and study well. Sometimes the quizzes had questions for things not gone over in class so read and study well.

Comment:

For exams Focus ur time on the book chapters and a little on ur notes/lectures. AND take notes on the movies shown inclass, they'll be on the exam. For 131, both her midterm and final were take home papers, and you definitely had to put effort into it. She also had a inclass exam which I would say was mostly based on the book chapters & movie notes

Comment:

She has so much experience, she cares for everyone, & is very inspirational, i love her,BUT with that being said, her lectures are super boring and dry. It's hard to stay along with her and sometimes, her powerpoints are a little unorganized so you'll find yourself lost. She doesn't use canvas so u wont know what your grade is until the end.

Her lectures were boring but it had good information. There were no assignments. The midterm and final were both take home essays. There was also 1 test which was very difficult for myself and classmates. You will need to read the textbook carefully. She is a very nice professor with great life examples and fair grader..

She's very busy outside of teaching because she works 40 billion hours somewhere else and this is just her part time gig, no need to tell you that though because she surely will. I appreciate that she'll push the box a little though, unfortunately she doesn't do it to the extent that would be really beneficial for students. p.s. she takes roll.

I really like Prof Maxwell. Scwk 140 is not too difficult since the class is based on your volunteering experience. However, she does tend to use up the WHOLE class time (I don't remember having a breaks either). I wished I took her for Scwk 110!

If you are not black, don't hate the police, or do not want to hear the same stories over and over again DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES. She is biased and boring. period. However, she's an easy A. Attendance is taken everyday at the very beginning of class. Don't waste money on the text, you only need to skim it for the final (she gives study guides).

she is nice. she grades fair. easy exams. but she is BORING! she reads from the book with additional personal experiences that are not so relevant and most of all, SHE IS BORING! her tone and voice makes u sleep!

She teaches directly from the book, literally. The words that come out of her mouth are sentences written in the textbook. As long as you turn in the assignments and show up every once in a while, you're gonna pass.
